Wow you really did it up big time, didn't you? Hope you heal quick.....
|
No good deed goes unpunished. By the time your healed up you'll be ready to hammer at it, take care
|
I am still invulnerable....It just hurts more, now.......
|
Pain Hurts! Heal up fast but don't let the vertebral fractures get away from you. I have two plates, two cages and four screws (all titanium of course) to hold the two bone grafts together in my lower spine at the L4-L5 and L5-S1 levels.

30 years I was invulnerable. I used to bounce off all sorts of things but over the last 5 years I have stopped bouncing and just go "Thud" when gravity takes over. Luckily- although some pain comes with the Thud- I haven't heard a "Crack" at the same time.
Heal quickly |
Thanks for the reminder that since we can hurt ourselves just walking down the stairs, we shouldn't stay off the bike for fear of crashes.
I know that doesn't really make sense, but it works for me. |

Oh - that doesn't sound like any fun at all. Is there anything they can do for you other than wait for your body to heal?
In a few minutes I'm taking Mrs. Grouch to the hospital for a couple of tests. She's going back tomorrow to see her 5th different (kind of) doctor in 5 days. |

I think you need a little feline therapy.

Wednesday evening I hobbled to my granddaughter's basketball game, it was great therapy to watch her play even though her team lost by 1 point. Early Thursday morning about 2:30 I awoke with diarrhea and vomiting. I won't go into details (TMI), I think readers can imagine the scene, given my existing condition.
It's later Friday evening and I'm feeling better and have been able to eat. |

Louis, Merry Christmas to a riding buddy. I hope Friday night was just the flu and you continue to heal up in time for early spring rides.

Anyone can slip and fall on ice and get seriously hurt. It's being taken to the hospital by your son that's the real telltale sign here.
|
OUCH!! Heal fast and fully, it really sucks when you get hurt while doing something nice for someone else!
|
Invulnerable took a dive for me in my early 20's, when I developed permanent back issues. Nobody told me swinging a sledgehammer 8 hours a day for a month would hurt....
I was again reminded by the collapse of my right shoulder playing softball, the breaks in my L wrist on a trail, my R wrist off the hood of a Vette, my collarbone off a too-soft fork spring (coupled with a too-stout disc brake), and my L ankle on glare ice. I think I got the message now....... |
Heres hopping for a quick recovery. I know what you mean about thinking your indestructible. I have been blessed with good health all my life and when I had a little bout with my thyroid recently I found out how fragile life can be. Good luck and God bless.

Louis, I really hope you heal up well enough to get back on the saddle soon! My cousin, her colleague, Mrs. Road Fan, and I are riding another Michigan tour this summer, the Shoreline West tour. It would be great to have you there, too!
I have no doubts about your invulnerability returning! |
There was a feature article on the Weather Channel a couple of weeks ago, focusing on slip & fall injuries in Minneapolis. The doctor at a large hospital said that there had been 253 slip & fall injuries recorded so far this season. Of those, 3 were fatal head injuries. Many other very severe injuries. Be careful out there.

Oh boy Louis, not good. Any explanation for the D & V? I hope it wasn't the pie! Are you on antibiotics? Pro-biotics are especially helpful during antibiotic therapy.
I hope you continue to feel better today.

Thanks again to all the respondents to this thread.
I had lots of pain today, especially in the area of the spinal injury. Pain meds help slightly but not as much as I would like. |
Hang in there, friend.
|
Any better today, Louis? I sure hope the pain has lessened for you. I am keeping you in my thoughts & prayers.

I don't understand what's wrong with all you guys. I'm age 64, and I can ride 300 miles in minus-50 degree weather, uphill, into a 50 mph headwind, on my mountain bike, with two flat tires. In deep snow. With brakes dragging.
(Okay, just kidding) Happy New Year, everybody! |

Today (12-27) the pain let up some and I feel pretty good, although sneezing is still an adventure. They told me to fold a pillow between my side/back and lean against a wall when I feel a sneeze coming on. Inconvenient...but it works.
