On behalf of our species, I resent this slanderous remark!

I can sweat just as much on my trainer as an outdoor flat ride. i'm counting trainer miles because a mile is a mile.

Opps, my error. I should have been more specific rather than just say "indoors."
Miles count if you actually ride them. Spinning tubes or fans magnets doesn't.

If you ride in a n indoor velodrome you not only get to count your miles, but you earn my great respect.
The only velodrome I've ever seen in person is outdoors in San Jose.

Didn't we work out an Official Scoring Method some time back?

Trainer miles count, but at a rate of at 50%
Dirt-road miles count at 110%
Commuting miles or touring miles (if you're carrying something) count at 125%
Miles up Mt. Doom (Pcad's nemesis) count at 150%, because he's old and decrepit
Miles in the rain (my specialty) count at 175%
Miles on a bike you want to sell so you can trade it on on something newer and flashier because that will make you much faster count at 200%

I hate riding on a trainer but sometimes have no choice. I think any miles on the trainer is harder than on the road, no coasting, no wind, no hills, no scenery and it is boring. So I guess my mileage doesn't count. Let me just say I did hit 7,000 miles total and a vast majority of them outdoors.

A mile is a unit of measurement of linear distance. How far did the trainer move, for instance?

First post on the 50+ forum! It happened earlier this year, but it has been a little hectic. Anyway, riding was down (lack of time) this year but logged 3,855 miles with 316,922 feet of climbing (82 per mile). Speed was up over years past so something is going in the right direction. I got a Kurt Kinetic for Christmas so there is no excuse for not working a little more on power now. Which also means I can join the "are trainer miles real miles" debate. IMHO they aren't and I track separately.

A sad story to report. Fell just short of my 5,000 mile goal. 4952. Too much going on the last week of the year.

Wow great mileage by all. My mileage was no where as near but I enjoyed every mile I was able to get out an ride. This year overall milage was down as our schedules were crazy. Living in NH riding time is greatly effected by weather and I referee over 250 games (basketball/soccer) a year so it can be a challenge to get out.

But the miles were fun both riding single with friends and on the tandem with the wife. This time of year it is on the trainer several times a week and usually 5-8 basketball games a week to help be ready for the Spring.

So as far as my goal goes... I rode every mile I was able to get out for. Never as much as I would like but definately enjoyable every mile no matter how hard.

Where is that Spring?

Impressive. Surely a lot more work than riding a bike!

18,349 mi. 104 centuries. Only 61, so still working. Like riding my bike.

My wife mentioned early in the year that a "century of centuries" had a nice ring, so I made it a bucket-list thing. Not recommended for those with a life.

I cannot comprehend riding "a century of centuries". I guess you must like riding your bike.

I've read this several times, and I am still stunned. 104 centuries would be 2 a week all year, with 8,000 additional miles in your "spare time."
You live in Indiana, where the weather must make centuries tough some weeks, which means doing more than 2 a week sometimes.

How? How many hours a week are you riding? Do you have any hills?

A motor? A way to ride only downhill? Share!

More than some, less than some, given that I'm self-employed I'm happy to have achieved 5209 miles as of 12/30. Rain/work on the 31st kept me off the road. Most of my mileage was accumulated from July-Nov. December was especially wet; I hate riding in the rain and am grateful to my business partner for covering for me on those sunny afternoons when I just had to ride.

My mileage is down about 500 mi. from last year. In neither year did I count trainer miles. I guess I'm kind of a snob that way.

And please define "working". The only working guy I know who got close to 20K miles in a year is umd and he rides to work, ride at lunch, and rides after work to hit those numbers.
