My wife mentioned early in the year that a "century of centuries" had a nice ring, so I made it a bucket-list thing. Not recommended for those with a life. :thumb:

I see you go by akansaskid. Well, as they say "Kids do the darndest things!" :D
I'm in awe!!

And please define "working". The only working guy I know who got close to 20K miles in a year is umd and he rides to work, ride at lunch, and rides after work to hit those numbers.

One of the guys in Lone Star Randonneurs is well over 20,000 for the past year. He rides rando rides on the weekends, rides during the week at nights. I did a 200k with him last Thursday; he was doing 12 of them in a row on his days off.

One thing that helps is if you're fast. If a century is 4.5 hours, it's easier to fit it in than if it's 8 hours.

You live in Indiana, where the weather must make centuries tough some weeks, which means doing more than 2 a week sometimes.

How? How many hours a week are you riding? Do you have any hills?

A motor? A way to ride only downhill? Share!

Typical week last year: Century on Sat., Another on Sun. Then 30 miles after work for each of 4 or 5 of the weekdays. I get 5-6 weeks free in the summer from work (local high school), so I used that to make up the several lost ones due to winter's snow and ice.

Wichita is in Kansas, not Indiana, so I'm "a Kansas Kid". ("I'm just a kid again/Doin' what I did again..."). Wichita is also at the edge of the Flint Hills; it's rolling hills east of downtown and flat to the west. But there's the wind to slow you down!

This wasn't about what I "should" do, but about what I "could" do. Lots of deferred maintenance both around the house and in my own personal development. I'll be cutting back this year.

When I turned 60 in late 2009, my mantra was "I don't mind being 60, I just don't want to be OLD." :) So this was my "put up or shut up" feat to myself. Many others on this forum could do the same, I'm sure, if they were willing. Not sure why they'd want to, though.:D

Road bikes 3976m, 280.35 hr, 14.18 mph
Putter around bikes 362m, 35.2 hr, 10.3 mph

Total
4338

Most of my miles were commuting. 1 short charity ride with my 11 YO, I think my longest ride was 42 miles

Okay... if you reported an extra .84 or .44 or .36, cut it out. Whole miles only, please. You know your bike computer isn't calibrated that closely.

3700 miles in 2010 I have to say a personal best for me and I look forward to 2011 to be another personal best year.

11200 outdoor miles, 50% of which was at least partially related to getting to and from work. Also logged 103 hours of indoor spinning, mostly in hotel fitness centers while overseas for work and and at home after our snowmaggedon in February made road/trail riding difficult to impossible for over two weeks.

1934 miles total.. 86 rides 134 hours 14.4 ave. 66 short of 2k goal.. but blew away my last year high of 1481 - The Christmas snow put the brakes on my chance for 2k. here in Philly... no problem though ... will give it go in 2011 !!

Why must Pcad be such a wiener?

richyankee 01-10-11 12:15 PM

Even if I knew my total, I wouldn't put it up here.
I've never done a century, never done more than 15 miles actually.

Still, I am happy with the results I have achieved.

I think I may have done 800 to 1000 miles, but that include my first 6 weeks of riding when I was not working and rode every day. Since 2 miles was more than I could do without pain on my first ride, I'll take it.

Sounds like you're one of the contenders for 'most improved'.

Only 67.58, the lowest since I started tracking mileage. But with two new Xavier stints installed for xmas I should be back up to my normal mileage soon.:thumb:

Makeitso 01-10-11 06:41 PM

I had 1901.2 miles this year. I have been keeping track for 5 years now and this is right in the middle. The most I have done in a year is 2972.7. That was in 2006.

My goal for this years is to do at least 3000 miles.

Oh, I don't take away the high mileage part. But, when treading into the hallowed ground that is provided here, you really should show some manners.

Sculptor7 01-17-11 12:07 PM

The 4500 miles I did in 2010 represents 12.3 miles per day average.

When I was in my 50s and 60s my average commute was 6 miles a day. And that was not more than 5 days a week for six months of the year. (Never rode much in winter here in Maine) Of course being retired I don't have to spend a day at work so can ride when the spirit moves me. Still, 26 years later it is nice to see an improvement in the annual miles per day.
