It is pretty much as the doctor has informed her. There are some small muscle movements she can learn-that help pull the the bladder up-and strengthen it. Some of the medications help a bit, too. There is a surgical procedure to assist in rearranging where the bladder is. This is still a big surgery. In the meantime, to deal with a very annoying problem, please have her try a change in the fluids she drinks. For example, coffee, tea --none before the start of the ride. If coughing and sneezing are creating some leaks-there are small pads women can wear now--that are easily changed. Stress incontinence is pretty embaressing. Trying to void on a schedule is a good idea, too. Holding it in, can just fatigue the muscles, and incontinence result. If she is taking medication for high blood pressure, that induces voiding as it works, arrange for a different time to take the medicine-but by all means-do not stop taking the medication to avoid the bladder issue. The specialist should be able to give her decent suggestions for the nature of her condition--whether she is a good candidate for the surgery--or if medication and bladder strength training will abate the problem.
