Note that there are other things that can cause muscle cramps - it isn't always electrolytes related.
I noticed the lack of salt on my clothes after a hot 65 miles on Saturday. I don't recall tasting a lot of salt but it sure burned my eyes quite a bit. I think I will try a little of that salt substitute. I know too much salt makes my heart and head throb like crazy. I did have cramps in the calves but spent Saturday riding a DH bike and standing quite a bit.

One good way to get a boost of electrolytes during a long, hot ride is to stop at a store and get a can of V8 juice. Along with all the good vegetables, it has 600mg sodium and 670mg potassium per 11.5 oz can.

Nuun is a great product.
I use to use a lot of hammer gel but have cut back. On a longer ride I will have on bottle of a 50% gatoraide mix, that will help with the energy. I use it as part of my nutrition plan on rides of 50 miles or more. Buying it in bulk it is pretty cheap.

Pickles can contain aluminum. I don't eat no bikes and don't ride no pickles.

I would rather snort table salt..

I always want to like V8 but I just can't.

Ice cold, 50 miles into a ride on a 90+ day, you may find it more to your liking.

Pretty sure you wouldn't want to be between me and a couple of cans of V8 in that situation!!!

Try the low-sodium V8. It's much more tolerable.

Thanks, Ill give that a try. In the mean time, Ill get some of that salt sub that is 50/50 sodium chloride, potassium chloride. Ill use a bit of that in my water bottle and carry a pinch for re-fills.
