Feeling hungry so only suggesting
Some posts never seem to die and get resurrected. That has occurred with the Pie ride post so there must be something going on. Perhaps new members that have not participated yet- or some feeling Pie withdrawal symptoms.

Whatever it is- and I am not going to advocate changing the "Official" Pie ride- but I am going to suggest that we get the training in earlier this year. This will involve a lot of hardship for some of us and for some it will not bother in the slightest. In fact some of the masochist's on this forum may even enjoy it.
So I am going to suggest a training ride far earlier in the year and that date is the weekend of 7/8th of April. For any that have not noticed- that is the Easter weekend and is one week after I officially retire.
I can assure you that this is going to be hard- You are not being given much warning- so you will have to start the heavy breathing exercises and the loss of moisture through over exertion far earlier in the year than some of us are used to.
I cannot suggest a training programme for you as I have never reached the ultimate of Blue Berry Pie (It doesn't exist over here) so perhaps some of the accomplished riders on this event will be able to offer advice.

Retro, that date only exsists for you Yanks the rest of the world doesn't reconized that nomenclature so Stepfan's early pie ride is still valid for the rest of the world. Feel free to join us though. And Cbad has a good idea for the next day as a recovery ride or vice versa.

Hadn't thought about Easter egg rides. Should have done as the grandchildren are now old enough for Easter Egg Hunts. And pi day comes a bit soon for some of us-Not enough time for the training. I know I would only just be past the Apple with cream stage by then.

I'm sneaking off now. I've earned it, metric century solo this morning.
Off to a sympathetic supermarket. "Psst, hello again, you know your way"
Pork pie, steak and kidney pie, Beef Wellington, Pate en Croute
(and, less under the radar, I've prepared a pear, apple and ginger tarte tatin for later with this morning's riders (who left me behind). Oh - and a bit of Calvados on top. Oh heck, back under the radar)

When I raced in France we used to go to Normandy. 3 Races a year and it was noticed that a plastic 20l drum was going round the pits. Asked what it was and it was "illicit" Calvados. All you had to do was put 5 francs-About $1 in the drum and take out 1/2 litre of the pure white liquid inside. Put it this way-I had the biggest hangover of my life and that was just after smelling it. However-a friend of mine said he would let me have a bottle of his good stuff. Free of charge and it was only 100mls and I was wondering how good a friend he was after the Drum that went round. It was fantastic but I was not that good a friend. No more was forthcoming but I later found out that this was the last of a barrel his uncle had made 100 years before. It was unbelievable and went down like honey.
So besides the Calvados- You are also having Pork pies--Lucky &%*
