I brought this question up because I rode a metric century without putting a foot down and found that keeping a good average speed was easier without stops. I did struggle a few times to not put a foot down for 63 miles, but I made it. I found it challenging to find a way not to put a foot down, I found it interesting, I found I had to be in good shape to go the distance. It was just fun, that is all.

78 mi while on a century and I missed the planned stop at 50 mi. That stop felt pretty good. Don't think I could do more.
