I gotta brag!
Well for the first time in my 50+ career I did a pie ride! The local Oz Bicycle Club did their annual Wicked Wind 100 today and I did a half century followed by a quick 6 miles just to qualify for a pie ride. The day started off at a cool 63 degrees F and never got above 74 degrees. Wonderful weather with only about 10-15 mph winds. It was a great ride and I got to ride with some fine folks. Normally I just ride by myself so I liked the change of pace, espeically during the 12 mile stretch when we charged into the headwind. We developed a pace line, kept our heads down and made very quick work of the headwind stretch!
Last year I set a set a new record since my earlier cycling career in the 1970s (in my 20s) by putting in 752 miles for the year. With today's ride I have racked up over 900 miles for this year and am hoping for at least 1200mi. by the end of June. I am having more fun on the bike and knocking down milestone after milestone!!
I am also riding with a lot higher mph that I thought possible just a few years ago. I don't know if I will feel comfortable riding a century by the end of the year but I do have a metric century or two and an Ocataginta (80 miler) scheduled.
Oh yeah! When I decided to get back in shape I weighed over 215lbs. and when I weighed myself last night I was down to 181lbs. Right now I don't have a specific weight goal. I am just curious how far I can reduce my weight by riding about 5 days a week.
I know that to some here these achievements are just small potatoes but I spent my 40s feeling like I was slowing down. Since I got back on the bike I feel like I am only getting better! Glad to be on the bike and to be here at the 50+ forum!

Congratulations! You've made great progress. Don't downplay the distance--the great majority of adults our age cannot complete such a hard physical event. I am glad you are enjoying cycling so much.

Congrats on the Pie Ride. The first one you do, especially at our age(and extra especially if you've been off a bike for decades), is a great accomplishment. We want pics of Pie. No pics=pie didn't happen.

Well, son of a gun, gongrats!!! This upcoming Saturday when I show down at Newcomb's Ranch, I'll have some pie, also. I hope it fits after the delicious lunch. Good thing it's all, or mostly, downhill after lunch.

Thanks one and all!!! I've had a pretty good time the last few weeks training for the ride and then doing it. As an added bonus I may have just scored the N+1 project bike, but that will be a story for another day.
