Cycling with a Pacemaker
Yesterday my cardiologist inserted a pacemaker in my chest. The main reason was that I was diagnosed with bradycardia (my restiing heart rate was 29-34). I have passed out twice in the last month while sitting in a chair. With the pacemaker in, my heart rate will now go no lower than 55.
Luckily the cardiologist is a cyclist. He asked what my max heart rate was and I told him about 130. He told me that he could program the pacemaker to gradually push my heart rate to 170 when it detects that I am exercising (breathing hard). I was elated. He told me not to expect miracles and I don't. But I am hoping for at least some increase in my power output.
Has anyone else experienced cycling with a pacemaker?
