Biking is sorta out this weekend
Some area around here are getting 30 inches of rain but pretty much everyone will get over a foot.
My wife and I (in separate cars) got stuck in downtown Pensacola today. I was in a flooded road early this afternoon but my brother and I got the car to high ground. We then spent the next hour and some pushing stalled people out of the deep water. Unfortunately, neither I or anyone like me was around to save my wife as she got her car in a 4 foot deep area,

Plenty of rain over here in the UK but thankfully most of it was yesterday and to the west. Wales has had it bad with 5" falling in an hour. So the country is in drought with a few places getting what the rest of us are not.
Glad to see you are safe-and hope the wife's car is covered by insurance or not as severe as it sounds.

Try 13+ inches yesterday in Pensacola with higher amounts in outlying areas. More is hitting us today too and it has been even harder up in the central/north part of Escambia County and Santa Rosa County, where Tom lives. 100% for today and tomorrow and as long as that low sits off shore in the Gulf it will be heavy rain, we need this to refill the aquifer and lakes/ponds. At least the wind hasn't been too bad just some sharp gusts here. No tornadic activity either, thank God!
Where did y'all get stuck Tom? My son helped some people in town yesterday.
Stap, What is the closest town to you in England? I know the southeast sector but not the area you live in.

Nearest town to us is Eastbourne. That is on the Coast and is 20 miles or so East of Brighton. I am only 6 miles from the coast as the crow flies but 10 miles to my favourite Cafe on the seafront. The town I live in is called Hailsham and I live on the Northern edge of the town. In theory right on the edge of the countryside but with the number of new houses in development and planning- will probably be near the town centre shortly.
And that 5" of rain in one hour in Wales-- That was in one hour- No figures for the rest of the 23 hours but it was a lot.

Hmmm... found it on Wikipedia, but strangely there was no coverage of the famous recently-retired cyclist living there.

Amazing that Wiki decided to use the saving of the market area instead of Stap's retirement for the significant event of 2012. I need to submit an update to them so they get their priorities in order. Hailsham sounds like a wonderful English town to me. I had your general area right when I was piecing together things form your posts here. And, 5" in an hour is a drizzle along the Gulf Coast Doug. when a tropical system comes in, especially a slow moving one, we can get some astronomical figures for hourly and daily rainfall.
Tom, werre you down for the Maritime Ball Park dedication? We thought about going Friday night but didn't want to risk the chance as bad as the drainage is along Main Street and the bay-front.
