4,000 mi YTD. On target for my goal of 8,000 mi for 2012
About an hour into today's ride I hit the 4k mi mark. Right on target to hit my 8k mi goal again this year.
Did you set a goal? How are you doing?

I'm pretty much on target even though I didn't ride most of June, due to an injury. However, I have a bunch of 100K + charity rides coming up and I'm sure I'll make up the miles I lost in June. I don't have a set number of miles as a goal, just doing more miles than I did last year is what I am shooting for. Last year I did over 5,000 miles and this year I will definitely go past that.

Way to go! I don't have a specific goal other than to ride more than the 1200 mile year I had in 2011. To date, if I make it to this Thursday night shop ride, I'll pass 1000 miles on this weekend's ride. This has been by far my best season ever. Hope saying that doesn't jinx anything.

Every time I try to set an annual mileage goal I find myself either stymied by circumstances beyond my control, or else doing something really stupid (like the year I was 30 miles shy of my goal on December 31st so I got up at 5:00AM and did laps in the park when it was 26°F out). So I am reluctant to set annual mileage goals.
OTOH, I'm right about where the OP is mileage-wise, and it did just occur to me the other day that if I continue at this rate I should have no trouble hitting 8,000 miles for the calendar year. So maybe that's my goal
...but I reserve the right to deny this conversation ever took place!

I have mixed feelings about setting a goal, albeit I usually set a minimum this year's being 2000 miles. I find that having an annual goal keeps me motivated (a motivation that I shouldn't need but there you go). On the other hand, having a goal can keep me focusing a bit to much on miles ridden rather than the joy of riding. Truly a conundrum!

I ride 4500 miles per yearbuttbis year it'll be around half, 2000, since I didn't ride for first half of this year (well only 500 miles).
I'm not bothered by it.

I'm slightly ahead of my goal of 5,000 miles for the year. I just passed 2,500 and still have 1+ weeks left in June. Although we have some nasty weather moving in for the next several days which may interfere with my riding.

My goal is to enjoy my cycling. Part of that involves being able to ride in the mountains, so a certain level if fitness must be maintained. I don't use a speedometer but have a pretty good idea of the miles that I do.
#14
Last year I ended up with 7,968 miles. I wasn't paying attention really, otherwise I'm sure I could have squeezed 33 miles in somewhere or another.

Last year I put in 750+ miles. This year my goal was 1,500 miles and I hit 1,300 miles last weekend. So the 1,500 is pretty much a slam dunk this year. I will have to rethink my goal for the rest of the year.
I also have a goal to do a metric century and possibly a Octaginta (80mi) by the end of the year. If I find a century that is convenient I will probably try to do it.

I didn't ride today, but as of yesterday I had 4,397 miles with 257,380 feet of climbing.
I have ridden 11 centuries this year, but (yeah, I'm a wuss) only one double (Spring Solvang). I do have another double coming up this Saturday (Grand Tour, Malibu to Ojai and back) and will do Knoxville plus maybe Bass Lake doubles to keep my Triple Crown going for another year.
Don't have any specific goals, other than to ride to have fun!

This got me thinking.
My goal for this year is 3000 miles. I'm right at 1500. So far so good.
I can do 3000 this year, but I'm not sure I want to.
I have a 16 y/o daughter that needs her daddy. Cycling for me is an all-day affair. I go out in the morning and collapse for the rest of the day.
I may limit my miles to spend more time with the fam. I'm really trying to get her to go MTBing so we can do it together. We'll see.
If I reach 3000, I can then say I reached 3000. Not that big a deal in the long run. I'd hate for my daughter to go weird on me. So far I've been very fortunate: her three oldest siblings turned out great. More important in the long run.

With so many cold, wet and windy days in Oregon this year, it was hard to find the motivation to ride and ride long enough. Instead of mileage, I'm trying to work on riding faster, both on hills and flats.
I'm really impressed on the mileage that many of you have accumulated and plan to finish with this year.
But this brings up a question...... How do you free up enough time to ride that many miles?
Between work, home projects, and enjoying time with the wife, I never have enough time to ride or ride long enough. What's the secret?

The last couple of years, I've put over 20,000 km on my bikes (12,000 miles on fixie, tandem, & track) each year. At the midpoint of this year, I've got at least 10,000 km. What's more important is that I've got about 8,800 km of that on my Rodriguez fixie, so the frame now has its first 50,000 km (since November 2009).

Great news on those who have a goal and are doing well; but I agree with others that sometimes other priorities should take precedence; for example; family.
My goal for this year is 5,000 miles but I should have 4,000 by the end of June. I'm close to 3,700 miles right now and have a 250 mile ride the last two days of June.
At this point in my life I'm lucky to have the time to ride and have discovered the joy and addiction of riding to keep my mind off other things and make new friends.
Since my wife passed away almost two years ago my life is mainly consumed with work and now cycling. And cycling is much more fun than work most of the time
My two sons live about a five hour drive away so I don't see them too much.
Once I reach 5,000 miles I'll need to change my goal for the year, can't wait.

I had 3000+ miles by the middle of April.
Then I had surgery, and following complications. Been off the bike except for a period when I got in about 200 miles.
So, no I don't think I will be setting any records this year...

I just have a rough idea of my mileage so far this year. I haven't been logging it but I'm confident I'm meeting my annual goal. I mainly make sure I'm riding 5 to 6 days/week and at least 23 miles/day(been 35 miles/day for over a month now, with an occasional 23 or a longer ride(did a 42, a 45, and a 60 mile rides a few weeks ago). The odometer on my roadie reads 2117 miles and I put around 8 or 9 hundred miles on the old comfort before that.
