Finally get to ride with my son

My #1 son (first out as it were, his twin is #2) wrecked in a crit on Sunday (back wheel got hit) and now has a somewhat bionic right leg complete with rod and assorted other HW. He'll be fine and is already on crutches, out of hospital today. I'm looking at the bright side in that I'll be able to keep up with him during his recovery I may even be able to drop him Apparently his surgeon said that he only sees that type of injury in old people and cyclists. Doesn't bode well for us old cyclists

He and his family are pretty close by so we'll be able to help out as necessary.

Sorry to hear #1 was injured that badly. Hope the leg heals up well and completely.

Bill, thanks. He should be fine. He can probably get on a trainer in 3 weeks or so. Bone, itself, will be healed in 6 weeks. He's what I used to think of as middle-aged, mid-30's, which is now the mid-20's. I wouldn't mind seeing him give up crits,

Hope he recovers well. Crits suck.

Wow, hope he heals a ok and feels your support. He's one of the lucky ones to have a parent who cares and gets cycling.

Just glad he got proper care and sounds like great family support, too. The metal in the body is not any fun, I have 2 vertebral fusions at L4-L5 and L5-S1 with 2 Ti plates, 4 Ti screws, Ti cages and assorted other devices. Make sure the alloy in the pins, rods and other hardware isn't a ferrous alloy, some are, and if they are he needs the means of telling DHS/TSA about them unless they get removed at a later date, scars will not satisfy them, I know. They will set off metal detectors. Mine are completely nonferrous and don't set things off, thank goodness.

His wife's a nurse and she's all over his care and recovery. Home yesterday and in his own bed. It's amazing that they can do these sort of operations arthroscopically with only small scars, and this to put a rod in the length of his femur. Makes one want to exercise a bit of care on those downhills.
