Beautiful colors JD. Southern R. I. is still too warm for best color but the turn is well underway. It did seem to me that trees began losing leaves too early this year.

As a Gardener-Trees are a touchy subject for me. You have to have the right tree in the right place. That 60ft Ash tree or Willow at the bottom of your garden 100ft away from the house is acceptable. But how about the neighbour the other side of the fence that has his garden permanently in shade and gets all the falling leaves and branches? And as for other trees like Chestnut- Birch-Beech- Sycamore or Field Maple that grow even bigger then the problem is compounded. These trees Do not like being crowded or kept to a sensible size by pruning.
I have trees and they are "Garden" Trees but on 3 sides I have neighbours that do not realise the damage their trees are causing to their own house- let alone the neighbours.
But those trees not "Suitable" for gardens are spectacular at this time of the year-Or could be if we get the right Autumn conditions. For the leaves to change we need some dry weather-Not getting it right now- Some Frost and that is still a long way off- and some Sun which is very elusive right now. Our Autumn colour will probably just be Brown as it was last year and well into November as the trees just give up the ghost and hibernate

I got a few today here in Southest Connecticut. Colors are just getting started, it will probably be 2 weeks before peak season.

Ooh! I like that! It gives off an impressionist-oil-painty feel.

I've just returned home from a 4,800 mile road trip that took me through some spectacular fall colours. I left home last Wednesday, and drove a line from Toronto to Baltimore Md, New Castle De, Toronto, Thunder Bay On, Hastings Ne, Windsor On, Alsip Il, Remington In, Toronto.
Here's a few stills I cut from my dash cam video. The photos don't do the real thing justice, but they give you an idea of the kind of torture my eyes have been subjected to for days at a time.

Even with circular polarizing filters you will need to rotate the filter to find the optimal saturation. It's due to the direction in which the polarized light is being reflected off the surface, but the circular polarizing filter will have a greater range at which it's has an effect over a linear filter. Even on my old Yashica Mat twin reflex medium format film(120/220) camera, I would use a circular polarizer...but I had to compensate in my head since the meter was an external one. Also, if you are using an SLR, use good glass. Don't use Wally World or any other discount store's cheap plastic filters.

Not that much colour around here, but a nice fall day.
A bit puzzled as to how these three came to live so entwined:

Fall colors are currently pretty subtle in Central Indiana.

34 miles of Gravel along the Des Plaines River in 2 hours. Cool October weather, any cooler and I'll need cold weather gear.

Climbed up Pierce road from hwy 9 on my Saturday ride... not exactly fall colors, but then this is California.
Got to the top and saw this truck... (sorry for the bad picture - cheapo cell phone camera)
It was the Lynyrd Skynard band truck, heading up to the mountain winery for a show.
'Sweet Home Alabama' kept me going the rest of the day.
