Still without power. Just saw a picture of the beach area near the Dunkin Donuts on Ocean Avenue in Belmar NJ.That location is usually a mid ride stop on a 60 mile shore ride. Unbelievable devastation. Now my lack of power feels more like a inconvenience than a problem.

PRus, and all others in the situation, I hope you get power back soon. Be careful of space heaters--we don't want anyone burning down their home or dying from carbon monoxide.

After Isabel, I was without power for 10 days, but the warmer time of year, mid Sept, is far easier to deal with than when it gets cold. Keep safe all.

I was without power for several days a few years ago during 20 degree weather. Amazingly the house never dropped below 40 degrees.

But, I was kind of scared: the snow was high enough that I couldn't get out and without electricity, it was impossible to know what was going on... (Would the electric come back on? Was more storm coming?)...

No, losing power is usually not a big deal -- but it can be .... And it is always difficult and stressful.

It's good to have a wind-up radio. The problem is often that the stations stop carrying any information after a couple of days and return to normal programming. For those who are still without power, the lack of information is stressful.

The only really big tree that went down in my neighborhood was... mine of course. Still can't believe this missed the house. If the tree had fallen 45 degrees to the left it would have cut my house in two. Getting it removed this morning:

Good it didn't hit your house, or just as bad, a neighbor's. Looks like it being on that hill gives the impression it would more likely go towards the street.

Getting it Removed? Just think of the number of logs that would make and how long it would keep the house warm?

Our 87 storm and there were 3 big ash trees--60ft tall in my garden and only about 30 ft from the house. The wind came from the south and the trees were to the North. Within 6 months I had them down and they kept my neighbour in logs for 2 years. No damage done to the trees but ash Bends in the wind. Wind in the other direction and the Tiles would have been scraped off the roof.

I headed west were I new the roads would be open and I could forget life for a while. Although it was a nice relaxing 33 mile ride, the army of utility workers trucks, occasional hums of generators, down trees and lines, roof repairs and general cleanup was a constant reminder of Sandy's destruction.

Power back since Monday and now this!11" and counting!

You took a picture of my deck! Actually, just north of Princeton here, only about 2 inches overnight. But we did lose power again from about 4 AM to 7:30 AM.
