Backinthesaddle Back in the Saddle

Hi, it's been a few years since I posted in this forum.

First I had a lengthy illness, 3+ years, then hip arthritis. I was riding up until about a year ago, then pain stopped me.

Four months ago I had hip replacement surgery. Successful! After 5 weeks of recovery I was able to ride my town bike, which has a step-through frame (what used to be called a "girl's bike"). After three months I started riding my road bike. And ten days ago I started clipping in again! (For safety's sake, I bought Speedplay Light Action pedals to replace my Speedplay Zeroes, easier to clip in and out.)

So it's good to be back. I rode 20 miles Sunday, longest ride since 2010. And I'm actually riding stronger than I did back then. In retrospect, it turns out that with my bad left hip, I was essentially riding with my right leg only. Hard to tell when you're riding, even though I tried doing one legged riding exercises to check that out.

So it's real good to be back, enjoying myself on the bike again.

Next goals: I've riding only on the flats, I want to get back to the hills, then I'll really see how much more leg strength I have. Fortunately I have computer records of all my old rides for comparison purposes. Lose some of the weight I've gained. Do some longer rides again. But most of all, have fun!

Thanks for reading.

Your memory have been damaged while you were off on vacation. Those hills are not as short as they used to be and have probably grown some elevation while you were away.

Glad to see you back.

Don't forget steeper. They're always getting steeper. (And my past speeds are constantly increasing and the fish that got away grows with each telling...)
