yea we are BORING
Frustration is setting in.We have some day light but we are freezing our butts off,in the North east.Reading the posts there is not much to discuss. This has to be rock bottom.it can only get warmer.I know I said that last week.I cleaned my bike again, looked for problems but didn"t find any.Running out of bike topics.I must say you all are collectively brilliant. You're like a think tank for cyclists and then some.Is it warmer yet?

But I think I'll go practice some.

Whee! The icy-mix has us in it's sights tomorrow. Thanks to the pogo-stick temperatures, I've had plenty of 40°f errand riding, which unfortunately always came with 20+mph headwinds... oh, well.

Got to practice my slick roadway skills this evening. Freezing rain and sleet. Some fun. It's a good thing.

They always say that all the English talk about is the weather. Think we have had reason to over the last year. Currently cold-Windy and although dry now--We have had a bit of moisture falling out of the skies----For the last 10 months.
BUT Monday- Tuesday and Wednesday we had a few warmer days along with a brilliant sun in a cloudless sky that gave us hope for the future. But plenty to discuss and think about over here as you will find out when you get back onto the roads. They are full of potholes after the winter-ditches will still be full of water as the flood waters recede and your favourite cafe has closed down due to nor enough people going to it over the bad winter you have just had.

This morning we had -10C. So far there's 70cm of snow on ground. I'm waiting for my new winter commuter bike to arrive. Life is good.

Overnight low 64F, high expected 78F, with clear blue skies. A heavy infestation of clueless tourists on rental coaster brake clunkers is forecast along with intermittent flashes of thoughtless spandex and tottering seniors on the paths today. I've got to go pull PM on my bell, a little Tri-Flo I think.

I spend the winter flying one or another of my small RC helicopters around the house. Just to make this bike related I flew through my roadbike frame mounted on the trainer a bit ago..
Temp outside, 20degf with a 20mph wind.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. I started the week going to work in 9F/-12C. Now it's warmed all the way up to 19F/-7F. AND... I saw the sky lightening up a little bit on my drive in today. Still at least a month from any sort of riding weather - good or bad.

Winter used to be shorter when I was out snowshoeing, x-country skiing or riding my MTB. I have been making it through this winter with Facebook Scrabble marathons. Next week when my wife is back to work I can sneak out into the garage and work on some boat related projects.

Just dress for it

(I won't ride if there's ice out because I'm just not setup for it on this bike.)

In the late summer I got a hybrid with fenders, rack and trunk and then, before winter I got some nice tires on it with decent tread for sloppy stuff. And I found it was great! I have been amazed at how stable it's been on even hard pack and ice (although I don't seek them out, I'm no longer (as) afraid of them if I come across a patch here and there. (And, yes I DID knock on wood so I didn't jinx myself. ) Anyway, I got the bike to keep me riding through wet and slop and it's been great!
And, I've been slowly putting together the clothing... I found that my Gore-Tex shell works well with layers to keep me warm and dry. And, after Christmas I found a skull cap at Kohl's that keeps my ears warm. And an old pair of ski gloves keep my fingers nice and warm.
This morning I thought it was going to be too cold to ride. But I was having withdrawal symptoms... So I pulled out my old down ski jacket and took a ride down to my LBS. It was great! (Actually I was little warm!)...
But beyond clothing and equipment a big part of it is simply attitude...
I find myself telling myself: "No, it's too cold to ride. Don't be crazy..."
But then I think: "Wait a minute! If I were skiing I would think this was pretty nice weather!" So, I go out and, so far, it's always been worth it -- I had a nice ride. I might be the only cyclist I see -- but it's still a nice ride!
... I just have to keep reminding myself that sanity is not all it's cracked up to be!

SNOWstorm in Tucson yesterday (Feb. 20)!
Snowed most of the day plus some rain. Had to cancel the big Accenture golf tournament just down the road . . .
Also affecting the 88th Annual Tucson Rodeo and rodeo parade today.
Snow covered cactus are a bit of a treat.
This is our 4th snow since we moved here in 1978. Hey, winter usually lasts only one week over here!
Our aloe vera are blooming . . . spring coming this weekend?!
Had to use our sunshine shovel to get to the mailbox!
Pedal on!
