Celebrated a little too much yesterday... I am not sure if it was the whiskey or the Drambuie.

Now I can stop sneaking in here with the fake I.D.

Welcome aboard, Most just put the information in to their member profile, and we can pick up on your thoughts. Your list looks pretty nice to me. No real right or wrong to things like that here. Stick around, and just post as you feel like sharing with us, in a new thread, or as a reply to an existing one. We are pretty easy going about things, not sticklers for any protocols or such.

I'd give in to that impulse. I mean ... it's better than affair or telling your boss to pound sand, eh?

I find myself really enjoying the steel frame bike I've been riding. I've even toyed with the notion of taking off the brifters and going with downtube shifters.

Brifters are probably better for the vast majority of riders, but if you started cycling with downtube shifters (yeeeks, brifters have been around 20 yrs or so), there is a certain satisfaction with clean, no-look friction shifts and of course the nostalgia of it all.

Me, I've always been 'against the grain' a bit and walked into many a boss' office with recommendations, often to be told to 'go pound sand'. Not sure if vintage bicycles are better than an affair (never tried an affair), but I've been told the affairs always cost much more.

edit: looking at your list of bikes, you've got great choices. Care to share a pic of the 'Nago?

There is - and there's also a robustness to downtube shifters that make them good for bikes that get ridden in rain and slop... stuff that makes brifters clog up.

I lived on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi for about 10 years and enjoyed the experience a great deal. The people are lively and fun and usually very courteous. For example, if being passed by someone on the street, you will get a "good morning" or "afternoon" or a" Jesus loves you". On PBS there was a program I particularly enjoyed where a Cajun, named Tommy Joe Brough, originally from Brough Bridge Louisiana, and with an accent as thick as gumbo, told stories about his home town and friends and family.

One story was about Tutu La Fouche and his cousin Edouward. Dey took it into dere heads to go goose hunting in Wiskonson, even though dey had never been out of Louisiana. So dey load up dere truck and set off. Dey get dere and find a good lake to hunt. As dey look around, suddenly dey see an ultralight plane buzzing overhead.
"Cousin Tutu, do you see what I see? Look at the size of muskeetos here.

"I see dat Edouward - but look. It's got aholt of that poor fellow in it's claws. We can't let dat muskeetow devout dat poor fellow, even if he is a yankee. We is got to rescue him."

So dey blast away with shotguns and in less than a minute that ultralight is just tatters slowly spiraling down. Well dat felow was well bloodied and lived but vowed to avoid Cajuns for the rest of his life.
