Hot damn ... nice pix, everyone! That's what I'm talkin about. Now the challenge is going to be getting any work done today!
I have so many, I didn't know which to post next, but I was inspired by this one: That sir ... with your son peeking over your shoulder ... is a great picture. My kiddo is a lot older and about to head to college, but it reminded me of his first ride. The picture is scanned and blurry, but you can still see what my Dad used to call the "****e eating grin" on his face. :D Since then I've talked him into doing a couple of centuries with me. http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...pse64b7a7c.jpg

Nice pic! I like to mess with editing programs and saturating the colors thru layers. I use the free program GIMP to edit. Free cool program much like photoshop.
Hope you don't mind! :D https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...34e6c785d7.jpg My computer is wimpy so I shoot jpeg rather than raw. So the camera already does some color adjustments in the output. But sometimes it is fun just to play with a pic to see what comes out. |
Decided to get in a ride yesterday before the cold and snow return:

Cool. I haven't played with the photos like that in a long time. I have an older version of Paint Shop Pro. My workflow is mainly crop, sharpen if needed. Adjust the histogram if needed.
My computer is wimpy so I shoot jpeg rather than raw. So the camera already does some color adjustments in the output. But sometimes it is fun just to play with a pic to see what comes out. Exactly! I had to get a new computer to accommodate the programs I wanted to use. I bought the stand alone version of Light room so I could shoot raw. Honestly I don't see much difference in shooting raw for most pics. I use a free program called GIMP that I got of the net for free. Much like photoshop but free! :D That is what I used to saturate your train pic. I see a bigger difference in my images shooting full manual over auto than I do shooting in raw vs jpeg. If it's a detailed landscape pic, then maybe raw is better. But once I edit the pics, I don't one person has ever been able to tell the difference between raw and jpeg, including me! :p I just like playing with the camera on full manual trying to capture images I cannot with full auto. These were taken raw so I do see a difference had I taken them in jpeg. But I am just a guy messing with a camera and not a photographer. A real photographer may be able to see the difference but I can't. These were at night in Laughlin, set at about 3 or 4 seconds shutter speed. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...3a3fb6e70d.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...9bb7979c32.jpg |

My brother and I rode Skyline Drive plus the BRP North to South in May 2015. My wonderful wife provided support. GREAT week long ride. We had perfect weather all week. It was very close to 600 miles and 60,000' of climbing. Heck, Skyline Drive was 115 miles hotel to hotel with 10,000'+ climbing......that was day one and was really tough but got us off to a terrific start.
I've done the section past Grandfather Mountain, the viaduct and down into Blowing Rock. I was going to ride from the US Capital to my home in suburban Atlanta back in 2005 but life got in the way. User merlinextraligh did it August 2017. https://www.bikeforums.net/touring/1...ve-thread.html -Tim- |

Not cycling related but this is the best Santa photo ever.
It is my daughter sixteen years ago. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...d2ed31f91c.jpg |
Nice beautiful day and ride with the wife. She did very well, a 16.4 average speed over 32 miles on a breezy day. Not bad for a 56 year old chick! :D
