Yea, I rode with Ron Iseri. He was on our RAAM crew back in 2018. It was a comeback double for him too ... first one in a long time.

The ride started out a bit ominously. The Sherwin Grade is always a grunt, but this time, we had to do it into some pretty stiff headwinds (15-20 MPH). I am used to headwinds there (the colder air at higher altitude spilling down the slope), but this was unusually windy.

I was concerned that it was going to be headwindy all the say to the 100 mile mark at Lee Vining, but in truth, the winds behaved themselves. The only headwindy section after that was the ride up 203 to the Mammoth Lakes Village. After that, it was actually mostly tailwinds.

I finished pretty strong, but felt beat up pretty good at the end of the day.

Did you happen to go into Mammoth? I'm considering a trip there in the next couple of weeks, the lodging rates are cheap!

I don't know Ron, at least I don't think I do. Do you know TJ and Brook? They were there and were in a pretty good group.

how long (time) was the double ?

even at a decent clip a double gonna require some signif time in the saddle

add more time for climbing of course

You should! I have a second home in Mammoth and always stay there when doing the ESD. Great road and MTB riding up there, as well as hiking, fishing and all kinds of stuff. You should go!

I saw TJ at the start, and Brook and Loren on the route. They're too fast for me! Loren was looking good at lunch:

Oh yea ... lots of time. Strava had my moving time at 12:45. That is a long day in the saddle no matter how you look at it.

The climbing is significant, but the only truly tough climb is that first one up the Sherwin Grade. The others are just tough because of the altitude. You can definitely feel it!

The other guys I mentioned had a total time of 11:24. Supposed to be only 10K feet of climbing, which is fairly low for a double.

Yep. I got just under 10,000 feet. Feels like more, though!

Bella @ Rio Grande

Dusted off Bella and rode her today. She perked right up! I'm putting her back in rotation.

The river is high and muddy with spring runoff.

Really starting to mellow out as I get older, and my rides are more about chill zone than any other zone and enjoy the scenery along the way. Harbour along route riding the shores of Lake Ontario.

Day 2

Day 3 Well, at least you can be reasonably sure there aren’t any alligators… Gotta be all dried up today…100* and above for awhile…any sunny!
We have a rainy forecast, but the storms usually fall apart and reform again after they pass us! This retention pond will fill up in one day when we finally do get rain! It fills from a coupe of different sources.

Everyday temp for a while…may actually get hotter later in the day! Not too bad riding in this heat…plenty of water before, during and after! I’ve had to patch one tube in this heat…no cover…worst part was the sweat constantly running into my eyes and onto the tube I was trying to patch!
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...22d053d08.jpeg
I hadn’t ridden these bicycles for a couple of years with all of the BS I had to endure the last couple of years before I moved down here to Florida! Only things missing on this bicycle is the water bottle cages! Gotta find some old’ns!
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...e07077bd0.jpeg
Plus I was pretty much constrained by area limitations to only this bicycle…perfect bicycle under the circumstances by the way! One of those,”If I could only have one of my bicycles.”, bicycles…

All dried up! There were some scratchings in the middle and around the further side…we’ve had coyotes, bobcats, and panthers spotted in the area…oh yeah, we a bear in the area, too! People are usually armed against two and four legged threats…

We did, too. From Northridge to Mulholland at the Old Topanga area to Cornell, then out to Westlake and home through Simi. Few weeks ago we went up Rockstore climb. Walked the little trail around that giant hole and the road was fine after that.
