TimothyH, thanks. Emerson is not far from me. Just up 41 a bit. I might have to check the food out and I will bring my meds. I might want to take a picture of myself in front of it just to be goofy.

Rode to the Allatoona Dam overlook on my gravel bike today. 12% climb up a gravel road to get there. https://www.dropbox.com/s/1iteoiea5x...08.sm.jpg?dl=1 -Tim- |

From Sunday's annual New Hope, PA to Brooklyn near century. More than 30 miles of rain at the start, but things improved.

Emerson, Georgia.
Authentic southern cooking and locally famous but Doug took Labor Day off. The interior ambiance and decor matches the exterior to a T. The sweet potato casserole is pretty good if you can find a parking spot. Bring Lipitor. https://www.dropbox.com/s/j57bslghvg...12.sm.jpg?dl=1 -Tim- |

Beat the heat on a smokey day by curtis corlew, on Flickr It's supposed to be 111 today. We rode early. The smoke from fires in Northern California really made the light interesting. Enjoy this scene, because there will a housing development here on Empire Mine Road if developers get their way, and the always do in Antioch. great shot! My sympathies and best wishes to all living in the areas affected by these fires. Steve in Peoria, where we are blissfully free of fires and hurricanes. |
a quick photo from this morning's ride...

Nippara village, 12 km up a narrow road in a steep mountain valley near Okutama, which is the last train station on the way out there from Tokyo. I headed there to visit the local limestone caves (200 km out and back in a day). The steep rock faces felt otherworldly, like something out of a fantasy movie. |

From my trip to Rainier National Park, planned for over a year. Just look at how spectacular the mountain is towering above the hills in the background. Wait, you can't even see it, a 14,000' mountain, due to all the haze and smoke from the forest fires.
Riding, even side roads, was all but impossible. Not so much due to road closures (though they closed two we planned on riding), as much as difficulty in breathing. Everything of mine smelled like soot after returning home. |
