Can officially Post now

So I may have snuck in a post or two before- but it's official now. Turned 50 today. Was having a great day. Rode 56 miles. Wanted to do at least 50 for my 50th. Came home to the tragic news. so sad.

Here's my ride.

Thanks Guys. Yes I have Dan - end of this month. I had gastric bypass surgery about 1.5 years ago so the prep is pretty similar. Nothing Special on a bike. Next bike will be a domane or a Roubaix I think. I just got my bike last year. My first from My 80's Panasonic dx-2000 It's a synapse 6 aluminum. I upgraded the wheels , seat and cassette

Happy Birthday and welcome!!

Nothing special? That Synapse is a nice bike, great choice for getting back into cycling, again.

My sister lives in Worcester, I've never been there though. Is that a nice area?

Welcome to Fifty-Plus Forum, and I note you post from Mass. Just a few hours after that tragic news, the Forum rallied in support: “How Are All Our Bostonians Doing?”

It’s very Metrowestcentric.

For the past few years the Fifty-Plus Forum has had an Annual Ride in conjunction with an organized ride sponsored by an established cycling club. This year I’ve proposed the Summer Century and Family Ride on July 28 organized by the Boston cycling advocacy organization, Mass Bike:

I just bought a Roubaix S-Works, and today I corresponded with a BF friend who just bought a Domane, and loves it.

Now you can be on my lawn.

Glad you had success with the weight loss. We have a lot of people with stories of weight loss and improved health--yes, I have a story too.

I checked out their website and read their rides descriptions. They don't sound very inviting.

I'm a reasonably strong rider and can ride all day, do 75+miles easily, but I'd have a hard time maintaining their "C" speed range as an average. 20+mph and even up to 25mph isn't impossible for short stretches, but as an average? Not a chance. And all the stuff about "Please don't ride with this group if..." makes me think I shouldn't ride with any of them.

No offense to you or them but maybe they should re-think their approach.

Yes, Jim, but remember, Boston is the Hub of the Universe." Not Waltham.

To wit: A dowager from Beacon Hill went to California. When she returned, she was asked, "How did you get there?". "By way of Dedham." she replied.

When asked how she liked California she said it was nice "but too far from the Ocean." (As is Waltham).

Not so fast.

What part of "illegal poster" don't you get? The pathway to full membership now takes 13 years and payment of a fine for persons who have entered illegally. Come back when you're 63 and be sure to bring some pie with you.

Nice bike by the way.

Welcome! Nice touch that you've officially entered with a ride-your-age. The roads around you look to be very conducive for a nice workout - I've driven through that area and the roads seem ideally suited to biking. 'Cept in the winter.

Well, actually their website does sort of invite people, which could include me. We would all benefit from there being more cycling enthusiasts. But running too fast after encouraging people to join is a good way to make them not enjoy it and likely not repeat it.

My sweetie and I have run tandem rides with several clubs and found some wonderfully engaging, friendly, supportive, and found others less so. I've had similar experiences solo. It's fun to ride with folks. If the task of keeping up becomes a chore (or impossible) then we might as well be riding without them anyway.

I was not making a comment at you, only about the presentation on that website. I see no reason for you to insult me, not once but twice.

One acoomodation we on the Eastern Seaboard make to adjust to the Ocean is to ride alongside it and enjoy the spectacular views, rather than ride directly into it. This tip is also applicable to riding on the Gulf of Mexico and West Coasts.

Oh, I never thought of that. I wish someone had told me that earlier, it would saved me a lot of cleaning up.
