The standard 100 mile route that I did is supposed to be a little under 5,500 feet of climbing. I didn't get close to that this year, I topped out at a little over 5,000 on my GPS, which is what I've gotten every time I've used an altimeter. All the climbing is contained within the first 60 miles.

Two other routes this year, 100 and 125 miles, had another 3,000 feet of climbing.

So it does - except the photo is of my brother. ;-)

Considering the horrid chipseal that has become standard, leaving the pavement on the shoulder as it was often makes for a better ride. Oregon has adopted a state standard that says a rideable shoulder shall not be chipsealed. Of course, my local government chooses to ignore the standard. Darned anarchist traffic engineers.

I live in CA and we don't even have shoulders around here. Worse yet, the chipseal that is swept off the road onto the dirt shoulder turns an off-road oops into a real nasty spill

Just another thing to love about the Bluegrass State. It seems like they've used stimulus money to repave every road in the area, whether it needed it not, and when they do, they lay down this lovely asphalt. To experience chip seal I have to go up into Indiana, and even then it's unusual.

Is it me, or do women in general undergo a transformation when they get on a bike? It's a rare woman who doesn't undergo at least some babification on a bike.

Don't stare at the wheel...the same would be for the rider in front of you so that you know what's coming ahead on the road.
