FWIW, I've been having very good results with a 50-50 mix of synthetic 30w and mineral spirits.

Cooking oil, Oil from a vehicle dipstick, Suntan oil, Margarine, Butter, - they all work quite well. I usually use the old oil from the shaft drive of my motorbike, thus I only get dry chains on multi day journeys. Cooking oil works very well or chainsaw chain oil stays on longer.

I'd keep going but with 'light pedal pressure'.

I'd turn my hearing aid down! (just kidding).

I keep going and tell myself to remember to lube when the ride is over. But by then, I've gotten used to the noise, so I forget. Generally takes 2 or 3 rides for me to remember. I don't think it's a big deal.

The only dry chain noise that I've heard has come from other peoples' bikes.

Rain will wash off chain lube, but otherwise, a properly lubricated chain will stay lubed at least 300 miles. I really don't see how anyone could have a dry chain unless they have been caught in the rain or are a bit lax on maintenance.

I'm amused by some of the things that some contributors to this thread consider to be chain lube.

Wouldn't change a thing.

Except for the leaking PCB's getting into my lunch. It tasted too sweet.

What don't kill you makes you fatter, balder, shorter, better looking.

You forgot running through the cloud of DDT mosquito spray when we were kids and drinking from watertanks and standpipes painted with red lead primer. Does WD40 really make you sterile ? If that were advertized it would sell better.

I use only the finest grade of virgin Lemur droppings, expellor pressed and condensed in an ISO 9000 clean room. My chain will never suffer this "Dry Chain". Thank you and good day!
