Thanks, Bill. Now I see him, but he is still obscure, and I think looks more like 10 Wheels of Bike Forums. :innocent:

I was proud to recognize Jane Wyman, though. :D

Read about David Cameron locking his bike to a traffic bollard , being the Conservative party PM
when it was simply lifted up off the low post, and carried off, he had no cash problems buying another.

Gee dude even I knew that was Bill Walton... Bill has been an active cyclist for many years... I have seen him on the roads around CA several times (not really hard to miss - his bike is huge!). I always thought it would be cool to mountain bike with President Bush but methinks his abilities are way over my head.

Ohhh. I thought is was John Malkovich.

Neal Peart has also written an excellent touring book "The Masked Rider" about his experiences on a tour through Cameroon, West Africa.

I'll have to check it out. I had heard of it, but assumed it was a motorcycle trip-he's into that too.

Out of curiosity, I tried to find out more about the National Wheelman's Club. I couldn't find any material unrelated to this button. Was this an early astroturf group trying to confuse people with League of American Wheelmen? I don't know.

I'm embarrassed I missed that one. I forgot Bo is 51.
I'll be riding in the third annual "Bo Bikes Bama" this coming spring. Can't wait!

Madonna, The original" material girl" is 55 and still riding. I ran into her and her entourage while MTB'ing in the Shawangunks near New Paltz NY in 1988. Here is a pic of her riding her C'dale in London a couple of years ago. When I saw her in 1988 she was riding a C'Dale. Apparently she is a long time fan of the brand.

I recall a first-person article in Sports Illustrated in the 1979-1980 time frame. Walton was still playing for Portland then. There was a multi-day charity bike ride thru Oregon that Walton was riding. The journalist was riding a Schwinn Varsity. He spent 3 or 4 days riding catch up, but Walton was there at the finish to shake his hand and congratulate the guy for finishing.

Don't know if these count but they both qualify as 50 plus and I'm told they both still ride. One became much more famous than the other but the less famous cocky one was the influence for me to get into cycling before I even knew who the other one was. We'll see if any old timers recognize both.

He has to use a platform pedal and no clips or straps due to his ankles and knees having been injured and repaired so many times over the years. Still manages to crank out the miles and seems to always be smiling while out, who can blame a man for smiling when he is on a bicycle.

I imagine that he also enjoys it because he does not have to be competitive. He can just do it for the joy of riding. :D

Lemond, yes. The other is smiling George Mount.

You got it. 1976 Olympian road racer that surprised his fellow Americans with a 6th place finish and 1978 Red Zinger Classic winner. Boy that didn't take long. Not the clearest picture but I figured that grin would give it away.

Bill

Well he retired from racing after a short stint in the pros for an Italian team. I think he went back to school and went into engineering or something. I was told by some poster in here that he still rides on the west coast somewhere and is fast although he looks completely different than he did back then.

Yeah he and Mark Pringle were who I rooted for. Saw all those guys go past in the '79 Zinger in the Manitou Springs to Hoosier Pass road race and didn't even have a clue who Lemond was back then or remember seeing him go by. I think Greg was 17 years old and came in 4th in the GC. Mount won the Estes Park crit stage and Pringle won the Morgul Bismark stage that year.

George Mount is on FB and one of my FB friends :)
He's one of my cycling heroes!
