Computer forward bar mount. Worth it?

I have a k-edge as well. I went with that instead of the stock mount because I didn't trust the bands to hold and not break, but I haven't actually heard of anyone having that problem, it was just a good excuse to get another doodad for the bike.

Definitely a good excuse for some new "Bling" on the bike, but I think in the long run it may be a good piece to have. Sounds like it locks the unit in very securely and makes it a little more visible, especially for these old eyes. Now just have to hope I have the right size bar! (LOL)

If you ride in the drops, it's pretty much in your face with the standard mount.
I also use mine on hikes, and upload to Strava. It stays in my pocket other than checking altitude periodically. For those of you who may use Strava on your hikes/runs, there is a feature called "GAP" or Grade Adjusted Pace. It drops my average mph pace in half on some really steep trails. If it would just correct for altitude, I'd be set.

I bought the Garmin at the same shop I purchased the bike from. They mounted and set up everything. They put the stock Garmin mount on the handlebar just to the right of the stem, so totally their idea as I had no idea of how it went on or locations to put it. It's actually worked very well and only rotates when the road gets bumpy and the vibration will make it rotate just slightly. I was more worried about the O-Ring getting old and breaking and me losing the computer on a ride. The K-Edge being aluminum just seemed to make sense as it wouldn't dry out and crack like rubber or plastic might. The fact that it opens up the bars a little and puts the unit in front of the stem is just a bonus.

I understand. Mine usually works OK in a shirt pocket. When hiking up a mtn. canyon last week, it tracked my whole hike, but showed me coming down the other side of the drainage on the way back. I think it must have been more a function of data processing than signal.

A bit on the DIY trail....you can buy a pair of squeeze clamps that look like pliers jaws that have handles that will take velcro. A smartphone is easily attached and angle/position adjustable with a squeeze on the handles. Great for shooting vids, too.

It is easier for me to see the Edge 500 when it is in front of the handlebars. I use a Pro Carbon mount with the Garmin rubber-band thingy and have room left for a daytime running light I use.

??? I don't get it. I have a Garmin Edge, use the standard mount attached to the stem. I can read it just fine. The only time I can't really see it is when I'm off the saddle climbing. At those times I have other things on my mind..

I made mine with an aluminum strip, bending the far end to cup the top of the device and a bare bolt clamps it at the bottom. It holds fine even when I don't use the velcro strap.

My stem is flipped down and I actually have a "normal" cycling computer mounted on the stem.
I use the drops fairly regularly too.
I wouldn't mind the Garmin being even further forward than the "out front" mount put it.

I tried the Sram mount on my hybrid because handlebar real estate is limited. I like it, and may get one for my road bike. One thing I like is that you can reposition the mount without throwing out a pair of cable ties. :-)
