Rollin' on the back porch!
Too windy (and a bit cold) to take it out on the road today, so I rolled on the rollers on the back porch for a few miles today. And I do mean just a few miles. I can go for hours without stopping out on the road, but after just one mile on the rollers I have to take a break and catch my breath.

Kind of a short video! It ended just when it was starting to get interesting . . .
Did you have to take the jacket off once you got totally warmed up?

Yeah, it is a short video, but it gets the point across. The original video is several minutes long, but except for getting on and off the bike, it is pretty much the same as the short video. Plus I didn’t know how large of a file I could upload. No, never did take the jacket off, I guess I never did get totally warmed up. I kept stopping every minute or so to catch my breath. Riding the rollers is not like riding a trainer. I’m surprised how much resistance there is. I’m still learning how to ride the rollers. I’m in the big chainring on the front and a middle gear in the back. The high wheel RPM helps with the balance (the gyro effect). Hopefully with experience I will be able to use a lower gear that will generate less resistance and I will be able to ride the rollers longer without stopping. Time will tell.

Always enjoyed rollers, back in the olden days when I owned a nice Kreitler set, makes me a strange person, I know. Once you get the knack of riding on them its easy to keep a nice long session going and yes you warm up fast without any wind over you, as said. Considering either a new set of rollers or a trainer now, Parkinson's is making riding in the cold difficult to accomplish. Enjoyed the vid you shared with us, Spoke, thanks much.

Rollers were instrumental in developing a workable cadence when racing. Pushing a big gear while on the rollers speaks volumes about what is going on here. You are ready for lower gears and a higher cadence now. The sooner the better. Learn to spin, not push.
