Old dog getting back into cycling. (Geometry question.)
Hi All,
Old cyclist getting back on the bike. Been out of the saddle for almost 6 years for various reasons (health, work, kids) you know the score. Looking to get back into the game with a brand new bike.
Here is my quandry. The last bike I had, that really fit me was a 2006 Cannondale Synapse. I rode that thing for 3 years till a bad spill ended our time together. It was a size 53 and fit me like a glove with a 11cm stem. I would buy the exact same bike in a flash but they no longer make that bike in that size now it come is either a 51 or 54.
Here is the original geometry
Here is the current
So which one is closest to the original 53cm geometry? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

The new frame thats closest to the old 53cm frame geometry is the 54cm. The new geometry chart is quoting stack and reach which is good but the old geometry chart isn't so its hard to compare directly. The new 54cm has the closest seat tube angle and the closest horizontal top tube length. The new frame has a taller head tube EDIT: LENGTH, which could be a good thing actually.
Having said all this, I wouldn't actually recommend it as a bike to get back to riding on. That seat tube angle is too steep in my book and is going to place a LOT of weigh on your hands and shoulders. Probably not what you need to get fit again and enjoy your cycling. I'd be looking for a bike with a 73 degree seat tube angle at the most or even 72 degree in order to be more comfortable on the bike.

Builders Designers sort all that out .. its the Trail that makes the difference .. Head Tube Angle and Rake combined so point of tire contact, Plumb line thru the Axle..
is Behind a straight line thru the steering Axis .. the distance between those two lines (on the ground plane) is Trail.
Likely, you are just picking a Frame Size. then changing the stock stem.. Top tube lengths are proportional to the frame "size", seat tube length.
