Converting a Dahon Speed P8 to IGH,...
I have my Speed P8, and I'd like to know if I'm going to run into issues converting it to IGH. The rear derailleur isn't a standard type, as the hanger is part of the derailleur itself. Will a chain tensioner work here? I guess that's my main question. I'm going with a Nexus 8 speed hub, with rim brakes. I'm hoping there won't be a problem,...

Pros ? shall we negotiate the terms of payment first? < Rattles Tin cup for tips >
You could go by NYCewheels they make money selling things. Folding bikes & compact bicycles by Brompton, Dahon, Tern & Montague – NYCeWheels.com
sure you can Buy an add on derailleur hanger then Get a Chain tensioner (Paul's Melvin for example?)

AFAIK, the only Dahon Speed frame with horizontal drop outs is the Speed Uno. It has a coaster brake and no bosses for v-brakes. I don't know if it feasible to add those.
FWIW, I am a BIG fan of IGHs.

It can be done with vertical drops like on the Speed 8 (I've done it a couple of ways).. one is to install a EBB for standard BB .. I used a Forward Components on my Titanium 2 speed Sachs Automatic, but Trickstuff has one also..

Another is to play with gears to come up with a 'magic ratio' ... having a 1/2 link on hand helps ..
Other methods is to use something like a Singulator which mounts to the existing hanger, or there are chainstay mounted tensioners, like a Kore
..
So there are options for running the Nexus with vertical ends.. here's one I just converted for a customer to an Alfine SG S7000 that didn't need a tensioner, but the Moulton has a modified long vertical drop out that allows some adjustability...

Well your question involved a Dahon Speed P8... not quite on the pro's list of folders.
Jeez, I'm kidding! Just wanted to ruffle some feathers!
So let's talk religion or politics...
Oh, BTW, Bruce... did I ever mention how much I'd like to find out where you live so that I can rob you of your bikes?

I actually own a bike that I have converted to IGH that I use a chain tensioner with. It's my Puma Nevis, and it works amazingly well. My Speed P8 is designed differently, as it doesn't have a built in place to just add a chain tensioner.
I'm not going to mess with the bottom bracket, as that won't affect my using an IGH. What I'd luv to know is if anyone could suggest a tensioner that could work with the Speed P8, so I would maintain proper tension on the chain. I'm liking the Kore tensioner suggestion,...or just going 1/2 link. I'm a huge fan of half link chains. A half link, sized correctly, should eliminate the need for a tensioner.

Yeah, you're a ways away, but if you ever make it to Marin, look me up, I still have a few bikes knocking about that we could go out on ..... I'm hacking my Airnimal Chameleon as we speak... should be a burner if I ever finish..
