26" Wheels on a Tern.... ??
Hi guys,
Well, thought I may ask here something that the guys at Tern can't be arsed with. I have bought my 2nd Uno Eclipse, just got it last week. But, I noticed on their site they now have a few Eclipse with 26 inch wheels. The UNO comes with 24 but I need to move my Alfine setup from another bike to the UNO and am wondering if I should try building them into a 24 or 26 rim. If 26, I could also use on my normal bike. But, am not sure if it will work on the UNO version of the Eclipse. I guess the short question is. Is the Eclipse UNO frame the same as the X18 version with 26 inch wheels?
Maybe Tern will reply to me one day, but thought I would ask here in the mean time

It sounds like you already have a 26-inch-wheel bike, so grab a wheel and see if you can fit it in the UNO frame. You don't have to worry about brake reach 'cause you have discs, so all that matters is the tire clearing the top of the fork and rear bridge. I doubt it would clear a big knobby, but you might get lucky with a 1.5 city tire.
I'm not sure what you mean about swapping wheels, though. Once you have the Alfine installed on the Tern, it's not a quick job to move it to another bike.

Other bike is 700c with the Alfine setup but it can use 26" wheels. Hence my idea to rebuild the wheels into that size so I could maybe use on both the Tern and full size. I could swap them between bikes inside of 5 mins, I don't find that difficult. It wouldn't be a regular thing. Mostly for when I would decide to take the folder on a tour or day trip. I have tried measuring and it does seem like it will just about fit with the right tires. But, was just curious if anyone had tried it or if someone had one of the new 26 inch versions of an Eclipse I could compare frame measurements with.
