Help develop the new Origami logo
4 Attachment(s)
Folks,
We have been toying with the idea of updating our logo, and I would appreciate the forum's input. I would like to know your reactions to the following options. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=514092http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=514093http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=514094http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=514095 Thanks, Paul |

Ummmm, they are all in the same line, so there is no top or bottom. Do you refer to the one with our name in red?

#3 looks a lot cleaner and more professional. Looks like it would make a very nice headbadge too. ;)
|
#3 ,...looks fantastic!!!

PM me for details. |

Ahh, a gift as welcome as The Clap! And just as thoughtful too! :)

I like the graphics of #1 and the text of #4 . But I would kern the text to make the ends line up, so the text fills a rectangle nicely. Also, I wouldn't put "LLC" in the logo - it's kind of extraneous info, and some day you might change to a non-LL corporation.
You can also think of it as 2 components, a graphic component and the text component, and they can each stand individually or combined, and combined vertically or horizontally. Designers usually work out identity/branding systems that can be expressed in different ways and maintain the identity. |
The only one where you can actually see the bird is origami is the 3d one. On a head badge the other logo birds would be hard to distinguish. If you are going to use an origami bird, then use the one that is clear enough to understand the symbolism (#3). IMO
the other 3 are woefully inadequate as the design illustration is pretty much pointless. The font in the 3d one is also more attention getting. |
I like #4 . And nobody understands smallwheeler's humor. Or whatever it is he does that sorta looks like humor if you tilt your head sideways and squint.

I tend to agree with SW here; I think the designs are a bit industrial looking. An origami crane is a good idea for use in the logo; perhaps a stylized more streamlined origami crane plus the word underneath, in a more flowing script, or a stylized crane integrated with the word. PM Littelpixel who came up with a winning design for downtube.

Paul,
Just my two cents I am picturing something like a red wings hockey team logo with a wheel under a bird. Implies the bird is integrated with a wheel rather than flying away from or being caught in the spokes. I saw some other origami birds that have a more robin like shape but are still distinctly origami formed. I think they look more graceful than a crane. Cranes to me seem more awkward in appearance. Also, I would think you would prefer something identifiable when produced in a single color rather than rely on a two or three color design. |
I agree with the above - number 3 "reads" the best. :thumb: |

But close up 3 looks very good |
I agree with sw: I dont like any of them. I think sw is having a laugh as the O is stolen from the Dahon logo......
As is the strapline. Its worrying when you get smallwheelers humour! I think you would be better with something that shows what you do. I like the brompton logo. Its obviously a folding bike company. Maybe a bike on a paper aeroplane? Or the bike superimoposed on to a folded crane birde. Of the ones you have presented I prefer the 3rd one. Smallwheeler I am thinking of naming a new software company "microsoft".... Could you help with the design please. |
a folding bird ...hmmm looks a lot like the tern logo .... just saying to save you some trouble down the road
|
Origami crane from the 3rd one, bicycle wheel from the 4th one, dump the LLC. Crane needs to be one colour not two so it has a chance of looking like a crane.
Hmm. I wonder if anyone has ever folded a bicycle out of origami paper. Yep. They have. They are ugly. |

https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com...d7f88b2dfd.jpg mr. pinigis should definitely avoid any association with tern, the company who's bicycles catastrophically fail while being ridden. reference: http://www.bikeforums.net/folding-bi...l#post18643447 |
We have used the paper crane that is shown in option #1 for the past five years, the one in option #3 is just an update of that original design meant to depict motion. I think that it is still very different from the stylized bird used by Tern. Thanks to all of you for your input (even SmallWheeler!). I am leaning much more toward #3 with some suggested modifications. I will give the input to the designer (no SmallWheeler, I am not doing this myself) and see what they come up with next.
