Brifters does not look bad at all but the cables (long housing)... hmm. Is it esy in use (gear shifts)?

I like it, but, as Badmother said...the cables are not aesthetically appealing.
How are the cables when turned far right or far left?

the brifters i have in mind have both cables, brake and shifter, coming out from the back of the brighter and directly on the bar. so, it's not exactly like the image, sorry about that.

That sounds like a much better routing AND should look better too! Good luck. Will await updated pics.

I like the bike very much, overall, looks like a nice set-up for trekking/touring.
The front rack looks highly useful.

thanks, but it's not my bike. it's an image i fished from the internet to illustrate my idea.

Bikes: brompton sl, surly steamroller, fuji track, gary fisher bmx minivelo etc

Had some porteur bars on my Brompton but they are quite narrow and really increased the twitchiness of the steering. On a Fuji track bike they were fine.

Ohhh! gotcha, understood now.
Personally, I would have to "feel" how they operated before committing to something like that.

Have you tried out anything in a similar config?
