[Brompton] How to change brake cable?

Hello,

I wanted to get a new cable + housing for my 2014 Brompton.

With only two hands, what do you use to hold the calliper closed while 1) pulling the cable upwards with a needle-nose plier and 2) tigthtening the anchor bolt? Should I get a "third hand" or some kind of clamp ?

Also, am I correct in understanding that, with new brake pads in place, I should first loosen the barrel adjuster all the way out, tighten the cable, and then tighten the adjuster until the pads stop rubbing against the rims?

Thank you.

On the Brompton I do use a Third Hand, because I own one and it seems easier. If not, squeeze the brake pads towards the rim and pull on the cable until tight, then tighten the cinch bolt down. There will be slack because you can never pull it tight enough but this is good because it allows the brakes to open up where they need to be without being to tight. The adjuster bolt at the brake lever I tend to leave it threaded in almost all the way but not all the way. This way I have some leeway in what ever direction I want to go.

If you don't want to buy the proper tools, try a long zip tie?

I manage with 2 hands , its just another side pull, just the cable comes in from the bottom.. dont forget the V brake bellows-boot,

Between the arms on the side.. It keeps water out of the up turned housing..
