Wonder how that will work out when Brexit kicks in ..? already, I expect Germany - UK (now in EU) is different from US - UK in that regard ..

any Swiss or Norwegians , who did not join EU, have responses?

FWIW getting a identical rim makes re using spokes and even lacing pattern simple..

FWiW had bike , wanted to add lights, bought a Shimano-Brompton wheel, then a Schmidt new XS (Better)

So now have 2 wheels to part out, with single wall rims....

I added 2 speed geared crank doubling 3 to 6 over wider range..

....

Sure , The 9 spline diver is used with 1, 2 & 6 speed, and spline pattern.. was a Shimano BMX cog.. ..

FWIW Mk3 bike had a Sachs supplied hub , their 3 by 2 speed 2 cog driver kept the AW 3 spline cog ,
in 3/32 thick and 13& 15t..

Q: which cranks you use?

A: Schlumpf Swiss Mountain Drive 2 speed, [2.5 : 1 reduction] internal geared 54t & "21.6t"....

were it a 50t , the low range is effectively , an even 20t...

It's a Brompton restriction, it has nothing to do with the EU. They're protecting their dealers.

I take it switching to double walled rims will require new spokes?

You can ask at the company Website , they will tell you ..

( just bought a new built front wheel , (then they* changed the hub design)

*Schmidt, Brompton rim , from straight pull radial

to a semi radial ..

the awser is mostly yes.
but as the double wall rims have higher profile, the is a good probability you can just change the lacing pattern(exqmple: from x1 to x2).
it can fit

What a bad idea. How often have you gone that route on a Brompton, coming from single-wall-rims going to double wall? I suppose not a single time...
