1970's Iverson Grand Touring Folding bike
Hello,
This is to document the 1970's Iverson folder I picked up as a 'curb alert'.
Odd stuff.
- The frame looks like an Auto-Mini
- The 'headset' is from an Iverson Road Runner (Rad Rod, Muscle bike, etc)
- It has 451mm wheels
The headset/handlebars are a poor design. they can fold in, but do not allow for any height.

Note: the handlebars are at the highest 'safe' setting.

To remedy the handlebar situation. I picked up two 22.2mm quill stems from Velocipede (a shout out) and ordered Wald high rise handlebars.

Needed spacers for the 'Dual Quill'

Now it is a comfortable ride.

I was showing our son my handiwork, he asked if I took the big ass center nut cap off, whether I could use a single quill in that. We removed the center cap and a 22.2mm quill stem will fir in it. I just need to dremel some burrs off the inner lip. Pics to follow.

Quill stem in steerer.

Two sets of handlebars
I dremeled out the steerer and inserted a quill stem, not sure if it was designed for it. But it looks like it works.
Then added the old handlebars to get that unique look.
Also had fun with the hinge clamp. I tapped out a 5/16-24 hole and am just using a bolt in it.

That little piece of angle needs some excess cut off.

Well here it is in it's present glory.
Wald handlebars, Baosity 25.4 x 450mm seatpost, spare 1/2 inch pedals I had laying around(made a cursory look for folding pedals in 1/2" form, no luck). Because of the angle wheels appear difference size. The tires are faded and look rough, but they hold the stated 90 psi. Coaster brake feels like it needs an overhaul.

Rides nice, feels fast, I need to get a longer quill stem to raise handlebars an inch or so.

I decided to repack the rear hub. Has anybody seen one of these? A 'favorite' brand coaster brake?

I found where it is 'identical' to a Sturmey-Archer SC.

I found a serial number.

I have not found an Iverson database. But also thought this was a weird place to put the serial number
PS Took it on a short three day vacation in Ocean City Maryland. Forgot to take a picture for "Folders in the Wild". It really rides nice and has good balance without the usual twitchiness of the small wheeled folders.

All,
Iverson has gone to a new home. The Adult Auto-Mini with the Iverson headset is gonna be ridden more it is here.

Rode good today, 451 wheels at 90 PSI, 60 gear inches. It's right.
