Dahon Catasthofic Frame Failure - dahon Roo

Hey,

I wanna share a accident whose happen after a cathastrophic frame failure of dahon roo D7.
Riding on Sao Paulo on a major avenue the frame silpy snaps in half, leading the rider to hit hard on floor with some burns and minor injuries.

Dahon roo d7 snnaped in half

The closeup on failure point shows zero to none weld penetration on critical hinge point.

Bikes: '99 Trek 520, '20 Kona Sutra (FOR SALE 48cm), '21 Simon-Bikes mini-velo and a chromoly-framed folding bicycle with drop-bars and V-brakes, that rolls even while folded.

That's what aluminum does after having received enough fatigue. One more reason why I choose chromoly instead, at least when it comes to frames/forks.

Chromoly: always been good to me.

The vast majority of bikes sold in bike shops in the last 30 years have been built with aluminum frames. Warranty claim rates have been quite low, which is why the major manufacturers have continued to rely on aluminum for frames.

As hinted above, the Dahon pictured above may be a counterfeit.

Bikes: Serial bike flipper

It looks like a lousy weld, it didn't even penetrate the main tube's material. Don't blame aluminum for shoddy workmanship.

Provided it's a real Dahon, based on the sticker and the total change in frame with the bike currently sold under that name, it looks pretty old.
