Bikes: Several, all affordably priced, none exalted cult artifacts or hype jobs

My FSIR Spin 5

I built this FSIR Spin 5 in 2018 from a new full bike purchased in Bangkok for $600, and it's been great, trouble-free ever since. It's been on a handful of tours, including three overseas tours in South Korea, Malaysia and Thailand. Zero problems throughout. All in all, a fantastic, light, affordable, value bike with an unique spin pivot folding mechanism.

Weight-wise, it comes in at under 9.5kg, taking into account the additional weight of the installed Topeak Java bottle cage (120g), PowerGrips straps and the Tern Luggage Truss (195g).

I've always thought this was a cool design, too bad they are no longer made (that I know of).

What do you clip into that Klickfix luggage truss? I have the same one on my Downtube 8H but have had trouble finding bags/baskets that fit it and don't interfere with the front wheel.

I usually mount the Tern Go-to bag (very well made and fits a 14" laptop) or Kangga Rack with a dry bag. Take a look at the Tern website. I used to own an Ortlieb bag too but sold it. The Ortlieb bag is shown here mounted on the seatpost but could be mounted on the Tern Luggage Truss too.

On tour somewhere in the central South Korean countryside

Tern Kangga Rack on the highest of its two rungs, meaning its lowest vertical setting.

A holder of personal info and emergency contact should I be knocked unconscious while riding.

Just yesterday I dug them out and planned to install them, but ended up doing other things instead. Holy mother of Christ, it rained gangbusters last night, and it's only about to get started. The start of the rainy season is signaled by the night time arrival of termites in their winged stage of development -- dedalu, the Balinese call them, laron in plain Indonesian. They still haven't arrived so there's time still.

OT, but interesting enough, we imported your termites after WW2 with the return of the troops and equipment. They swarm in the spring here in the deep south. We call them Formosan termites, to distinguish between them and our native termites. Our native termites are black and a lot smaller and not nearly as destructive. Then again, maybe Formosan termites differ from Malaysian termites.

Bikes: There is always room for one more.

I always enjoy reading about and seeing bikes that are well maintained and used - not garage queens or wall hangers.

Climbed to 1,300+ masl to visit one of the island's top natural environments. Forged in fire and brimstone, it is one of the several outstanding crater lakes and collapsed volcano calderas of island SEAsia. In Bali alone, there are two such geological formations.

Bawang goreng, sliced shallots fried till golden brown, a typical garnish on rice. You'll find white rice garnished the same way in Malaysia and in southern Thailand too.

Aha! Much more savory than what I first imagined--a large insect. BTW, you live in a beautiful part of world as seen through your photos.
