Dahon seatpost pump problems
Hi all,
Just thought I'd let you know about a problem I've seen recently with a Dahon seatpost pump. My mother was recently riding her Speed D7 and hit a patch of bumpy road, which dislodged the pump-locking mechanism. The pump came out the bottom of the seatpost, and a nasty cracking sound later the pump was broken. She had to ride home with the remnants of the pump sticking out the bottom of the seatpost.
I took the bike into the LBS (Singapore) today, where they swapped her seatpost for a normal pump-less one. They said Dahon was aware of this problem, and the mechanism locking the pump into the seatpost has been changed for future models. The LBS hopes to get replacements in about two week's time. Anyone hear anything about this? I think the idea of the pump is great -- hopefully they can get the bugs worked out.
I've done a search on this forum, and it doesn't seem that the pump has generated much discussion yet. Is it not available in North America?

Not related to the seatpump per se but I lost a pair of sunglasses during my commute yesterday when they managed to wiggle out of the sunglasses case I had strapped to the seat post. Quite a bit of bouncing happening there...

I put 2 squares of electrical tape over the "tabs" on the pump handle. Duct tape would probably work better. This provides just enough friction that it won't come out accidentally, yet makes it easy to use when needed.
Quite literally a half-cent solution.
