2007 Cadenza
Does anyone have one? I am really interested in getting one.
It would be nice if someone can take some pics of the actual bike (instead of the ones from Dahon's website) and put them up here. I have a 05 Helios P8 which I like very much, but I am wondering how much more abuse it can take. Been using it to commute to work everyday for a little more than 20 miles round trip each day. It's very light and fast, but I could always use something faster : ) |
I have test ridden one. We took forever to figure out how to fold the bike, and found out you can take it apart completely. The frame is decent, but every componoent pretty much sucks. I had the most unpleasant test ride, although the dealer told me it was only tuned for test riding, which lead to the chain falling off, the brakes not responding well, seat not adjusted. Toga bike sucks. The thing that surprised me the most was how thick the tubes were, which lead me to think the frame is pretty stiff, at least solid. THe dealer recommended the bike to not be converted to a fixie.

I'm interested in this one too. I've seen a $540 price shipped, would probably do it for <$500 shipped.
Why 26" wheels though when called a road bike. |
Thanks. Take it apart completely? Does that mean you have to also take the wheels and handlebar off like what you would do for the ritchey breakaway?

I haven't heard much about the breakaway (edit: the ritchey branded ones) models in these forums. I'm curious if they've fared well. I have 2 S&S bikes and difficulty with them, aside from time required to get them into the small space, is that the other components you end up taking apart experience more wear and tear than was intended in their design. So slowly but surely you're rounding off bolts, weakening fasteners, weakening threads. So while the main folding component will be fine, the other parts won't. |
Thor, among others, would have better data than I, but several Dahon dealers have told me that they sell VERY few of Dahon's Break-away versions, which they attribute to price and to that fact that most travelers who know about S&S BTCs go that route for the same or less money, even though the BTCs add about [edited: 5 oz. per coupler] versus the B-A approach. All the dealers I spoke with said they had never heard of the downtube clamp on a B-A bike failing, but they all had stories of loose clamps being felt by riders who stopped and tightened the clamps.

http://www.sandsmachine.com/spec_ssc...l%20dimensions Interesting note on the sales of BAB. Nice idea that was made too expensive. I think there's still a lot of people out there that want to get a $400ish frame that can separate. The 2007 Dahon Cadenza looks interesting for that. |
jasong, you're right. I should have looked it up...

After doing some googling, I've found this:
