test rode a Tikit today
Overall this is a very cool bike. The handling is quite good considering, and the shifting and braking are rock solid. My only complaint is the front end is a bit flexy, which is probably unavoidable due to the design.
I can see why people are a little weirded out by the cable system but there really aren't any funky parts to it.

It's most apparent when climbing (pushing, pulling on the bars). There's a bit of "give" to the bars. Not an alarming amount, but you definitely feel it. Realistically it has no effect on handling (the small wheels are very easy to point where you want them to go). If you've ever ridden a bike with a loose threaded headset it feels a little like that.
I'll also mention that the model I rode had the dual brake-type cables. I think they are going with thicker aircraft-type cable now.
