BF New world Tourist upgrade
Ok, I have a NWT that has an 8 speed cassette with 9 sp spacing. I would like to upgrade to 9 sp. The shifters are 9 speed. Per BF this cannot be done. My question is can this be done and has anyone done this?

Since they sell NWT's today in both 8 & 9-speed cassette configurations I would guess it can be done.
Possibly you/they mean it can't be done without replacing the rear wheel, or is the rear frame spacing too narrow on your bike?

you have a 7 spd rear freehub
if it's a shimano rear hub you can replace the freehub and redish the wheel - go see your local bike doctor

My 2007 NWT has an SRAM 3-speed hub with a 9-speed cassette. Are the Sachs and the SRAM hubs that different?
I guess the question is: What is the reason Bike Friday said makes it impossible to combine the Sachs hub and a 9-speed cassette? Curious.

Essentially you have a dual drive 24 and you would like to replace it with a dual drive 27? I took a look at the SRAM website and it looks like the 27 has a different derailleur from the 24, so you might need to replace this. But it doesn't look like the 24 is smaller than the 27, and I don't think that the IGHs are different.

no you have a sachs 21 speed dual drive with a 7 spd freehub body.
you have to change the freehub body to a wider 8/9 speed model
i did this on my dahon speed pro 2005 to make it a 27 speed model
