Just to address the OP's original question: I work in a mall among other places and take my Strida 5.0 everywhere I go. There are other advantages to the Strida that haven't been addressed in this thread- namely, it folds/unfolds faster than all of these other bikes. That means you can convert to the compact package much more readily and be on your way. The long thin footprint can stand right next to you on a mall escalator and take up little room in a crowded elevator, and if the belt rubs against you, you don't have to worry about getting grease on your clothes. BTW, I don't have a car, but I have easily fit the Strida in many a trunk of even some very small friends' cars.

Note that I don't sell or have any afiliation with Strida, and while I admit they aren't perfect in every respect, I must say that my Strida has been my hands-down favorite purchase I've made in several years.
