Boris wants bike buddy volunteers for London Freewheel

London Mayor calls for experienced cyclists to sign up as London Freewheel marshals

Boris Johnson has launched a recruitment drive for volunteer marshals needed to help out at this year’s London Freewheel event on September 21.

The London Freewheel event enables Londoners to cycle around a central London route closed to normal traffic, whilst taking in some of the capital’s most iconic sights and landmarks. Music, stalls, and various forms of entertainment will be found along the route.

Johnson said:

“As part of our bid to encourage cycling in London we’ll be holding the fabulous London Freewheel event on September 21. Since we’re going to need a little help from those more competent cyclists amongst us, I’m asking any cyclists who are used to riding into the capital to consider signing up as voluntary London Freewheel marshals.

“I took part in last year’s event and can testify as to what a fun day out it is. As a marshal you will be asked to help lead groups of riders around the course, and generally help to make the event success, whilst enjoying the day’s activities. At the same time you will be doing your bit to help promote cycling in London by encouraging, inspiring and supporting new and returning cyclists.”

Marshals will be required from 8am until 7pm on Sunday 21st September, (and two hours over the summer for a training and briefing session).

All marshals should use orange bikes and matching jackets.

The Freewheel event was already established before 'Not-Nice-but-Dim' got elected. However, it is great day out and all should attend.

I was riding through Finsbury once when this pranny on a heavy Trek hybrid stopped dead in front of me with no signal to answer his mobile. Turns out it was Boris the Baffoon. Naturally I shouted at him though I kinda wish I'd been slower on the brakes and ran into the SUV loving numpty. That is all.

I like What bike's appraisal better.

I know it wasn't right for Boris to brake suddenly to a halt but perhaps it was just a moment of stupidity? Haven't we all made mistakes?

Some people have moments of stupidity - Some make a career out of it.
