Did anyone here buy this bike!?!
I opened CL today and started my usual searches when I came across this ad:
Airnimal Rhino Travel Bike, color-black; perfect for street commuting and off road riding; fork-manitou R7; rear shock-cane creek cloud nine; headset-crane creek; crankset-Airnimal 44T; gear shifters-Rohloff twist grip 14 spd; rear mech-singulator chain tensioner; chain set-stronglight 42T; bottom bracket-Shimano XT; cassette-13T Rohloff, chain-Sram PG850; brake levers-Avid; brakes-Avid front disc-rear V; front hub-Velocity 20 hole; rear hub-Rohloff Speed Hub 14 32 hole; rims-Velocity; spokes-stainless; tubes-Presta; tires-Schwalbe Marathon; handlebars-BBB topbar; seat-Fizik Pave; approx weight-26lbs; originally purchased in 1/2007 for $2150; stored indoors; ridden less than 50 miles; excellent condition. Must sell; leaving CA. $350
I couldn't get to the phone fast enough when I got to the part about the Rohloff hub and saw the price. Unfortunately, two others had also rushed to the phone and beat me to the punch. And this was only 1.5 hours after it had posted! I spoke with the woman selling the bike and apparently one of the potential buyers had already shown up at her door and was standing there when I called.
So, did anyone here buy this thing? Care to share some pics?
All was not lost for me, though. There was an older BF NWT also listed that was priced very reasonably, so I took the plunge and am now a member of the BF family! It's in decent condition, but needs a good cleaning and tune up. After I replace a few bits and pieces I will post pics.
BTW, I looked and looked but never found a serial number. BF in Portland couldn't give me any other locations than the BB or the rear edge of the derailleur hanger. Anybody know where else I can look? Tomorrow I plan to take it out into the bright sun and search again with my 2.5x glasses. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Now it's time to reduce my stable from 3 bikes to one to pay for this new toy. I won't know what to do with all the extra room in my studio apartment!

Wow! Someone got a really good deal on the Rhino. The components alone on that bike are worth much more!!!
Congrats on your Bike Friday!

I hate to say it, but it sounds rather suspicious to me. $2100 bike for $350? In SF?
I wouldn't be surprised if someone posts, "did anyone see my Airnimal? It was stolen two weeks ago."

The thief would have been a very knowledgeable bike fan. That listing was very detailed.

That suspicion is at least part of the reason I posted. I'm curious to hear from the buyer, what kind of vibe they got from the seller. Over the phone the woman I spoke with didn't come across as a thief.

Followup:
I finally found the serial # on my BF. Following an FAQ on the BF site, I found it on the derrailleur dropout above the axle slot. It had been hidden by the QR nut.
As it turns out the bike is twice as old as advertised. Their database is sketchy for the early to mid 90's, but it appears this bike was built in '94 or '95. That isn't what I wanted to hear, but it does make sense with some of the components (Suntour and Dia-Compe).
Still, it's a very nice bike for the money. I look forward to many upgrades and miles. The BF folks have been very helpful and supportive. It is a pleasure to work with them.
