Jeeps, can you believe this guy? Why is your bike and the scenery always so beautiful? Hmm?

( I see the stem you stole from a Downtube is still in place.)

:-)

SesameCrunch 06-06-10 12:30 PM

I'll take some credit for having a good looking bike. The scenery, however, is attributable to a higher authority. :)

And pffft to you for suggesting that I would bespoil my lovely Mouton Lava with a hand-me-down part from a Downtube! It's 100 % original equipment from the factory. Do you think so little of my bicycle fashion sense???

snafu21 06-06-10 01:56 PM

I tink it's very similar, with the logo and all, I'll try and take a close-up pic tomorrow. Either that, or Downtube might be fitting Moulton stems. :-)

Where did you source the ultegra 9sp shifters from?

(I am liking my APB more and more. Pictures hopefully soon.)

I got them off eBay about nine months ago. Used.

This will make them look even more geeky ;-)

Anybody has experience with bike fairing? Does it provide a significant speed advantage?

I am looking for any advantage to do my first century ;-)

I haven't used fairings myself, but have some recumbent friends who do use them. It makes a big difference in their opinion (like 15-20%, I would guess). Don't know how that translates in the upright bike world though.

Where and when is your first century?

PDR 06-10-10 01:46 PM

Very nice TSR there!!!
Did I ever show you photos of my rare Bridgestone Moulton Custom Sport?
These photos were taken by the dealer. I have since fitted MKS cube clip-less pedals, black Brooks Swift saddle and different chain rings .

Very nice!

I wish we could get Bridgestones here in the US. I would be tempted....

Mr. Snafu

It seems inherenlty wrong to have the load supported on the wheels rather than the frame. Am I missing something?
Nice looking bike, anyway.

stevegor 06-10-10 07:55 PM

Not meaning to be a :troll: please don't :fight: me, I really would like to know why.....

You guys that own the Moultons don't use bigger chainrings?
I understand using a 53/42 or 39 or even a triple if you are touring, but,
I'm running a 58t x 14t single speed 20" wheel bike that easily spins out at 30+kmh.
If I were running a 9 spd rear cluster I would aim for 60/50 up front and maybe 11/23 at back.
At least that would give me some decent speed when I play with the big boys.

And yes, I realise that this bike is using the Capreo system.

SesameCrunch 06-10-10 08:36 PM

Stevegor: with the 53/39 and the 9-26t on the Capreo, I get 30-118 gear inches. 118 is plenty high for me!
I can spin up to 35 mph at that gearing.

Do you normally run higher than that?

jur 06-10-10 08:47 PM

I run 60T/44T and 11-34T on my Moulton. I'd like a little higher but 118" would be enough for me too.

Rob Neher uses 62-50 double with Capreo.

Well there I go again, shooting my mouth off without first counting your teeth.

Thanks for the replies, nice to see you guys running real gearing.......

A friend on mine has a classic Moulton Speed 5 or 6?, he uses a 72t, it looks like a dinner plate.
He was my state's junior TT champ, so he knows how to push big gears.

That's OK, Steve. You're an Ozzie. We know you can't help it.

That's not a chainring, that's a satellite dish!

Not all Aussies are like Mick Dundee, some of us have high culture... we does.

As for the 72t..... he wanted bigger!!

Love the new bars. They would have suited me much better than the old ones. I always had a hard time being bent over as the other bars required, and usually rode on the tops. An excellent thing to see her again and in some new finery.

But truth be told SC's Moulton Lava came from a very dodgey source! :D

Did you mount the bar upside down, rise instead of drop? I stumbled upon a nitto mustache and have the intention to mount it "rise" too, as I have the original threaded headtube and a drop stem.

Keep this thread alive. Here is my 10yo FX8 before the mustache

SesameCrunch 03-25-12 10:43 AM

Yes, I have the bars upside down just so I can sit higher. Got some back problems at my advanced age.

fietsbob 03-25-12 11:29 AM

A 'Bike Friday" water bottle on a Moulton??? (The one on the seat tube)
Because the seat post hinges forward, they mount on the back of the seat pillar.
BF buy Cat Eye cages, because they are flexible, when the one on top of the main tube is mounted . and for overpacking stuff in the travel stealth suitcase.

A height gain of 2 inches would be great for me too. I am looking forward to testing it out.
