July 10, 2011 Ciclavia has been Cancelled
I have some bad news for folks that just love the Ciclavia bicycle events. The July one has been cancelled. There will be a non traffic closing formal bike ride scheduled for that day:
"....Gather 12:30pm, DEPART 1pm PROMPTLY!
With no CicLAvia on July 10th, we're instead hosting a group ride. No street closure. Riding in a group, with traffic. Obeying traffic laws. Ride is about 10 miles, mellow leisure pace, all welcome - though you'll need a working bike, and ability to ride 10 miles. We'll be riding some of the areas where CicLAvia expansion is planned for October 9th, with brief stops at community landmarks, speakers telling about community history, etc.
You can ride free... but there's a suggested donation of $5...."

I am curious still....I wonder why the event was cancelled?
The heat & humility perhaps?
Finances?
Many out of town at this time?
The Duke & Duchess of Cambridge visiting Los Angeles all this weekend?
Even the looming, getting nearer all the time, dreaded Car-mageddon the week after?

Reason: We are leaving town!!!
Our Ventura place sold quickly; new owners want in ASAP; we are packing as I type this. Late last week, my wife phoned Los Angeles Mayor, Antonio Villaraigosa, and asked he cancel the planned CicLAvia event. She didn't want me distracted this weekend and have a reason not to assist her in getting everything boxed up, so we can get out of here Tuesday afternoon.
So, now you know the real reason the the cancellation.

Awwww! I thought that you would stay here for a little while longer. I am happy for you & your wife that your Ventura property sold so quickly. I wish you the best in your new home. I think the bike scene is much stronger in your new locale, so you will get plenty of activities and options to choose from.
And thank you very much for posting the "real reason" behind the cancellation.

Ahhh...that's too bad. We just had our version which is Sunday Streets in Golden Gate Park/Ocean Beach with a free live SF symphony concert. It was just a great experience.
Darn, my wife and I are heading to LA this coming weekend and there's no way of getting out of this.
