We did it with The Beatles all those years ago, now we are going to do it with the Brompton !

Dahon just dont have a giant killer, they have many models, some good, some great, one or two even brilliant, but they don't have one stand out bike that everyone recognises. They should look to Honda in the sixties who sold millions of C70's round the world but had no one crowd pleaser till they brought a heavily subsidised CB750 to the market, the rest as they say is history. Where is Dahon's CB750, the model that people not only desire, but actually go out and buy.

Wouldn't that be the D7? I think that's pretty much the iconic Dahon.

I know a dealer who was mainly a very large Dahon distributor who got so many requests he had to start stocking Bromptons. Yes it was in the UK but I'd be curious to ask Diginexx in Singapore and NYCWheels what they sell the most. And yes I do realise Dahon sells the most bikes in terms of global sales & market share. The Brompton is a singularity and a huge success nonetheless.

Yes, I realize that this is subjective.

My impression is that Brompton was designed with focus on functionality rather than on look. Works great for me.

Honestly, with the $900 tag, I'd rather buy a used brompton.
Sorry, dahon.

I still love my hasa f2, though..

Sorry, dahon.

I welcome rivals to a Mezzo, Diblasi, Curve.

I think people still don't get the point why people buy bikes. There is an underlying core of the health benefits it brings to the rider. If it takes either a Brompton or a Dahon and other makers to get people on the saddle, that's great. More choice is good. I am beginning to suspect that most of you don't ride that much. I mean, I can barely put myself down in front of my computer reading this forum cause I had already spent my day after my 9-5 job and then riding around and spending my quality time with my Dahons, come home to family, eat and spend more time agian with family and then plop my fingers to the keyboard if I have any time left. Seriously dudes, you guys should spend more time riding rather than hours of keyboarding.

I like the Jifo 16. Interesting design.

Good point my trial bikes skills(?) are very rusty recently.

You know as much about our lifestyles as you do about Brompton, the UK and the international cycle market lol.

Actually let's reverse your comments on you considering the big long essays you write ;-) Or maybe you are a 100wpm touch-typist? :P

PS. I rode 22 miles today, did a hard days work and still managed to post here. I'd also like to add that not all people buy bikes thinking about health, some do some don't. Others just want an economic and efficient means of getting from A to B. Often the health benefits are incidental to them.

Is this is what folders are? Actually riding?

Sowwy for bamping:

According to another comment on the net, the whole design of the Dahon JiFo was bought up from another bike company:

Yes, they buy in designs, win awards, but till can't seem to get anything new on to the shop floor. It's a strange marketing strategy for sure.

brakemeister 04-09-12 12:46 PM

well lets see what I havge in stock right now.. being new for 2012 and I am not listing bikes where just the color has changed, there are plenty of them ...

Mu 360 Nuvinchi hub
Mu p24
Formula disc brake equipped

thats just a start ....
more is coming down the pipleine

thor

Diode100 04-09-12 01:53 PM

Ok, point taken, but to my mind you're talking variations on a theme (Mu) rather than award winning bleeding edge technology; the Nuvinci sounds interesting, but who really needs 24 gears on a bike like a Mu ?

I just think the largest folding bike manufacturer in the world should be capable of pulling rabbits out of the hat and wowing customers, at least once in a while.

brakemeister 04-09-12 03:49 PM

i agree somewhat
but somehow i like the fact that they dont do silly things and reinvent the wheel but built on existing plattform
and the formula bike is pretty snazzy

Besides pacific cycles I don't see anyone out there pushing the folding envelope like they do. dahon main money maker is their variations of the mu and speed frame, bike friday with the tikit and pocket rocket frame, Brompton..... well you get the idea.

I'm wowed by the Tern Eclipse S11i, but then I'm an IGH when in the city guy.
