Bikes: Bike Friday Tikit, Brompton M3LA

Just ordered a Brompton

Ordered a M3LA Saturday, now have for the long wait till it comes in. They told me it would be about 4 weeks. Think it will be better for short runs around town then my Tikit. Just paid $4.50 a gal. for gas on Friday.

good move looks like they keep evolving a better bike
the steel left pedal pug is now like the Ti one, allen wrench,
instead of needing a 24mm socket wrench..
M3LA? A is for what , aluminum seat post?

Don't know what the "A" is for just in the order description. They only have the 6 speed in stock so this is a special order for them.

Wow, count yourself lucky, wish we could get fuel that cheap
I'm paying £6:40 per gal of diesel, or over $10 US..... and yes, I save a lot by using the train and my Brompton. You don't know just how good you have it over there

To the OP, congrats of the Brompton. I've never even seen one in person, but I've read they're fantastic bikes!

PDR - Apples and oranges, really. While fuel is significantly more expensive over there, you have many options we in the US don't have. Public transport is better in Europe, more cities are bike friendly than here, and you have many more fuel efficient vehicles available over there (think Mini diesel, BMW 1 series diesel, and virtually every model vehicle available in diesel). The Mini diesel gets roughly 75 MPG. There's nothing even close in the US.

It's mostly taxes. If you don't like it, remember it next time you vote ;-)

Up north here it's $5 a gallon at the moment. I read it is to go even higher by summer cause of the oil embargo. And north america I find living without a car is hard in certain burbs cause everything is built soo bloody far apart. This country seems to be built for cars first, everything else second unfortunately. We are the cause of this urban sprawl.

How did you order through? Did you order a 'ready-made' or from scratch? Any of the front bags?

Please add photos here when it arrives? I would love to read a detailed post of it's arrival, what you have to do (putting it together) and the entire buying experience? I am so dreaming of a Brompton when I get small enough.

I ordered an S6L in mid-February. It's supposed to take 4 to 6 weeks to get it. I hope to receive it before CicLAvia, which is April 15th.

Bikes: Surly LHT (weekend ride & touring), GT Outpost (commuting), Brompton M6R (Weekend tours that involve flying), Co-Motion Periscope Torpedo (family weekend ride & touring)

I placed a M6R order which got called in to the factory on Feb. 20th. The LBS checked with them today and notified me that it's been delayed due to the raw lacquer frame. Had I known this earlier I might have switched the order to cheap-ol-black. The factory promised to ship it out this Friday. It probably won't get there before the LBS closes for 1.5 weeks (vacation).

The LBS said my bike should be here in about a week to a week and a half. Should build this week.

How fast do the bikes ship to the US once they are build. Are they shipped express/priority?

Just paid $4.50 a gal. for gas on Friday.
by summer its going to be $5.00 and the reason for this is its easier for the oil company to raise the price to $7 or $8 when the economy improves... the argument is hey you were paying $5 no one was complaining when the economy was bad now that the economy is improving its $8 a gallon ! trust me on this its going there.

you made a very good investment[in health and welfare] buying that folding bike

Did you get your bike yet? The raw lacquer is worth the wait! I just got a raw lacquer H6L on the weekend which was in stock at a LBS in Portland. I originally thought I wanted a colored bike, but I love the raw lacquer!

The bike left the factory on April 4th. I doubt it will make it to the US by April 18. I was planning to take it along my next flight and do an overnight tour but I guess that won't happen.
