BF vs Pannier
 

I got a nice Basil.nl briefcase/pannier bag as a gift -- I put it onto the (purchased from) BF rear rack on my Pocket Rocket.

Found I have to slide it to the back part of the rack to avoid heel strike:

Which works fine, except that now it wobbles and occasionally touches the tire.

Any suggestions? If I swap-out the rack, my BF underbag won't fit any more. Is there such a thing as a "rack extender"? Or...?

Haven't had any issues with my BF Pocket Rocket and regular panniers, but your briefcase looks a bit wider than most panniers. I would try strapping a dowel or metal rod horizontally to the rack support bars partway down from the rack top so it provides additional backing to the rear part of the briefcase and keeps it from swaying so much.

BTW, the 'underbag' may still fit with a different rack. I use mine on a Blackburn rear rack and it works ok after just a bit of trimming of a couple of the velcro fastening tabs.

Maybe a seat post beam rack will raise the bags up high enough to get the heel strike resolved.
one with a loop below it will give you something to snub the swaying, with it to attach to..

I only have front Panniers on my P Llama.

My panniers have the front trimmed to avoid heel strike. Not nearly as wide as your new bag. Is there a way to mount it to the handlebar?

I googled and couldn't find it, but... There is a rack you mount to the seat post for mounting a single pannier behind the seat. I think this might work for you.

The seat post rack is made by xooter. I use one on my folder. I noticed that some bags like yours have the mounting hardware at a slant to bring the bottom away from the pedal stroke. My racktime city was like this, but Ichanged it to a level mount for the xooter cross rack.

My computer is in for repair so getting hold of my "Favourites" links is a lot of work. I know I have posted a link to a Dutch bikeshop where they have stuff like that.

We have had similar problems with similar racks on big wheel bikes, you need a special rack or loong chainstays to have sucsess with such a bag.

Since you have a BF I would look into the front rack solution they have http://bikefriday.com/thestore/index...dobL0&cPath=37 You wil not have the same problems carrying it in front as you have now. When loading a 16 or 20" bike I always load the front first and then rear, first of all the racktop in the rear. Search up some older threads about luggage

Have you thought about laying it on top of the rack,
possibly with a platform to widen the rack for stability.

Common problem with long (in the dimension of the length of the bicycle) panniers, try a different rack like a Tubus Cosmo/Logo/Cargo that allow you to get the bag quite far away, also Thorn's expedition rack is very long and adaptable. Both have struts from chainstay_brazeons to rack that can be very long. Shown rack is about the worst type of model for helping to avoid sway into the wheel, with just the V support for horizontal surface.
