I believe that a dollar will get you much more motivation and enthusiasm in a third world country than in a rich one.

this is a bunch of BS. the fact is, the most productive and efficient workers are those that have the most investment in, and assumed responsibility for, the company in which they are employed.

Don't confuse output per person and output per $ payroll. There is a reason why manufacturing jobs are moving to low wage countries. A $ over there buys you more.

Hot damn, foldable politics

I like my gear properly engineered in Europe, then put together by whoever can do it cheapest and still honor some warranty. If that is China, so be it. I'm sorry, but I'm under no illusions about being able to change working conditions there by not purchasing Chinese-manufactured goods. All you end up doing is overpaying for sticker value while the big corporations still shift their operation eastward behind the curtains.

Just look at the outrage about Apple and the Foxconn workers. What a beautiful symbol of Western capitalism, thinner and more easily punctured than a Schwalbe Kojak.

How's your JetStream holding up? Anything broke yet?
The Jetstream is fine, thank you for asking, it's currently wintering in the bottom of the wardrobe, whilst the iXi is in the boot of the car ready and waiting to be taken for a ride. I'm a pootler, a pyschogeographer on rims, so no need to break things.

How is your lovely Mezzo ?

"How is your lovely Mezzo ?"

Very well, thank you. It's hiding under a Bulgarian Dahon box in the guest room, waiting for summer.

Don't believe everything you read on the internet. Some are just straight out lies.

For example, here are retractions from PBS https://www.pbs.org/newshour/art/blog...ple-story.html and from This American Life https://www.thisamericanlife.org/radi...460/retraction

I will have a look for any stickers and labels next time I'm in the wardrobe, but the suspension was reputedly designed in Germany and it does have Schwalbe tyres, - does that make it half german, i think probably not ?

Who actually cares where a bicycle is made in today's global society, that new Vitesse is a fine looking bike, and if it gets Dahon back on the shop floor and riders out on the street, it's no bad thing all round.

Maybe Dahon (Bulgaria) 2012 Ltd can do what Ferrari does, have buyers come to the factory and pick up their bike in person, enjoy some skiing in the mountains, wonder at the Orthodox cathedral and churches in Sofia, maybe throw even in a trip the the Black Sea resort - what's not to like ?

[QUOTE=snafu21;15077512]... fly to Belgium factory, ......... and drive home ...... full of frites n' mayo.
/QUOTE]

I had a weekend in Antwerp recently, a magnificent place, everything that Budapest isn't, best chips in the word, and they have a secondhand folder and recumbent shop !

The belgian coast in 42km long, there is a tram that goes the whole way, with a stop for more chips every km, that would make some bike ride.

Yea some guy spiced it up and now everyone looks all silly because they printed fiction. I'm sure that all means it's a delight to work in a chip factory. I was merely quoting it as an example of the illusions people live by about "made in *" products.

That's strange, i seem to recall that the europeans were hot for the Mini, the italians and french adored it, the italians even made it under license, and the dour germans, well they bought the brand. Maybe you are putting to much reliance on the dutch view. Where are saxophones made ?
