Tern Verge X10

Dear all, I am intending to get the Tern Verge X10. I am of 1.82m, 88kg. Will this suit me for my size? Any discomfort on the knee?

Regards

From their web site:

Suggested Rider Height:
142 - 190 cm

Max Rider Weight:
110 kg

So you're well within the weight and a few inches inside the max height. Unless your inseam is very long for your height, I wouldn't think there's a problem.

For a folding bike from the manufacture, it's got a very nice range of gears. It's got a wide range rear cassette on the back, so that should make it easier to find the right gear. (Having the bike in too high a gear and mashing on the pedals can be bad on ones knees).

I can't tell from the picture for sure, but it looks like one could put a double (or even a triple) crankset on the front if desired. Whether that would be a good idea or not depends on the type of riding you'd do (most people wouldn't find it necessary to do - as I mentioned earlier, this folder has a great gear range for a folder).

Biggest piece of advice: Go find one and ride it. It looks like a nice bike, but if it doesn't work for you then everything else is irrelevant.

Cheers,
Charles

u will feel that a 20 incher rides a little different than those big bikes..... get used to it and you will like it more ...its mostly in once head anyhow ...

what happened to the thread from yesterday with the guy complaining about knee pain on his tern verge?

NeoteriX 02-19-13 11:36 AM

Haha hey I'm that guy: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...etry-Knee-Pain

I'm 5'11", so just an inch shy. At my height I haven't maxed out the seat adjustment, and there's more than an inch left so you ought to be fine there. I weigh in a little less at about 167 lbs/76kg.

I love the bike, although I do get knee pain when riding hard or for long distances. There is a likelihood that it's not related to the bike geometry and is more related to the fact that my knees are a bit weird to begin with. I wish I could tell you conclusively it's one or the other, but I'm still trying to figure out the problem.

I asked the same question in my thread to Tern, and Josh Hon, the founder of Tern replied with this:

Our seat tube geometry and your position relative to the pedals is quite standard so that should not be the issue. You might experiment by sliding the saddle a bit rearwards since the seat post doesn’t have any offset.J

Dear all, thanks for the reply. As I will visit Taipei bike show in March, I intend to buy the Tern X10 in Taiwan shop. Any advise/ concern? I understand from Tern forum' someone's X10 rim spoke has broke out issue. Anyone encounter too?

You should be able to ride a reasonable bike without pain in one knee. It is your knee at fault, but the tern is making the sympton "noticable". Changing the bike or your interaction with the biKe might therfore make the sympton go away. So might adrressing the ,(usually unnoticed background) knee or physical issue.
All the best
